Yo! Bowhunters! Late blacktail looms!
This is my favorite hunt! I don't even know why as I love elk hunting but there is something about hunting those big boys after everyone else gets a crack at them. They say it is going to be a cold winter, lots of snow. Honestly, I would trade elk for this hunt if I had to.

Re: Yo! Bowhunters! Late blacktail looms!
There was a fresh buck rub in my strip at work this morning. He'd been feeding in the tops over the weekend. I was a little surprised because there's very few deer up where we're working. Time to knock the dust off the rattlin' antlers!

Re: Yo! Bowhunters! Late blacktail looms!
I'm pumped for the late season..Watched a couple bucks last night that were showing a little rut sign..Heading to Northern Idaho for ten days in early Nov for whitetail, but will be back to chase the illusive blacktail until one gets arrowed...I can't wait!!!

Re: Yo! Bowhunters! Late blacktail looms!
I'll be setting a stand with my step son in Oregon and paying a massive out of state amount in WA for a tag. I filled my deer tag in OR earlier and have to have my BT fix somehow, so WA late season is what I got to do.

I will have my trail cam out in full force, my tree stands up, and the rattlin antlers will be ready to rock and roll. I too love this time of year. Hey Jody.....maybe we will finally hook up for the late season eh??? Wheels.

Its going to be a new experience for me so I can't wait. Even though I wish I had gotten something during the first part of archery season. I am dying for some deer and elk meat.

Recently moved a little further "up" the hill, and the neighbors paid me a visit at lunch today :
Our new place is surrounded by ridges rising 2000' above the house. Those high peaks are just Summering over Ol' Grampa Mossyhorn, who should be coming down to play in the next couple of weeks .

Re: Yo! Bowhunters! Late blacktail looms!
Late season deer- exactly why I bought my bow. I have had people offer their condolences that I didn't kill a deer during early season- who tried? he he. This will be a new experience for me, too, but I feel somewhat prepared as I have found some new areas and spent some time looking around. I found as many as 100 last-year's rubs in a single day- that may not be alot but for this guy who spent most of his time chasing deer in Yamhill county- that's alot. Sounds like fun to me! Dave

Re: Yo! Bowhunters! Late blacktail looms!
I too am ready for some late season hunting. So far I am convinced that elk hunting is way easier than BT hunting. Maybe a little rattling sucsess will change my mind.

Re: Yo! Bowhunters! Late blacktail looms!
It's fun to hear about the different approaches people have in hunting BT's. Me, I love still hunting and calling. I bought a climbing tree stand and safety harness a few years back but just can't bring myself to sit in it even though I hunt areas that would work well for a tree stand. The older I get the more tempting it is to take a stand but a stump next to a tree is more inviting than 20 feet off the ground. Each season I try to sit for a couple hours on the first morning just to slow down to a "hunting pace". Our busy lives make it difficult to have the patience needed to slow down enough to be effective. A 30 second a step still hunt is a real test of patience but a great way to be successful. Yep, the late season dreaming has started,,,,
