Default Plunkin on the Columbia

I just spent three days at Columbia Riverfront RV park at Woodland. My plan was heavy fishing on those days. Well one out of three was all I could do. There was wind that would blow you five miles upstream on every cast. Still quite a few Steelhead going through. If you could get it out, there were a few fish taken. Some beautiful natives but several hatchery fish too.

On Thursday the winds had gone down so I spent some quality time there, listening to the local pro's that fish there. I learned about the ins and outs of fishing from shore. About noon, a guy came down and chunked a rig out about 20 feet downstream from me. He then went up to his car and sat. Ding a ling and he flew down the sandy shore, gave his pole a yank and five minutes later, he landed a bright hatchery fish. I fished for another half hour and then went to get lunch. I got fifty feet toward the park and ding a ling, another fish. They looked like twins. Some luck. I planned on fishing after lunch but my dog got heat stroke and we had to rush her to the vet in Vancouver.

So not much fishing but it is a beautiful place to stay and fish when they are coming through.

You bet it's a nice place to fish. Sorry to hear about the dog and you not catching any fish. Were you able to get on the point or were there too many people down there? The wind was really too bad on tuesday and wednesday to cast? Or was that just an excuse to sleep in the RV all day?

Only two hatchery fish caught on thursday? That's a few less than the norm. Too bad some of the upriver hatchery fish are unclipped.

just thought i'd add my .02 on this thread.

i've got a buddy who's so lucky he could catch a fish in a bowl of cereal. he's been going up to bonneville of late. he's drifting 2.5 oz of lead (!) up there somewhere and picked up a native steelhead and a keeper chinook of late.

hope your dog is better.
