Yep, I'm going. The reason the boat would not run has been found. Water in the fuel and a bad condenser in the distributor. We played day sailor today on the Columbia and ran for two hours without a hickup.

Only weather can keep me from the fishing grounds this time. I've bagged NOAA as my go to for weather. I'm depending on the weather rock from now on.

If it's wet, it's raining.
If it's swinging back and forth, it is windy.
If it is hot, well then it's hot outside.
And so on...........

See you there.

Pilar,

Congrats on the problem solving.
I knew you were that kind of guy.

I will have some go to info tomarrow night.

I am looking forward to the trip and have procured a pass, however...

There is a moral delima at stake. I'll give you a call and give you the low down.

As for me, I'm a fisherman and Halibut days are precious.

Nuff said...

Mr. F. out and monitoring....

O.K. lets do it. I'll break out the duct tape, load up the oars, and get the tow rope ready. Lets head'em up and move'em out. Team bad Halibut may have a little different look to it but we are gonna do it. Pilar I have some numbers coming your way soon.

PS. Single white male looking for well just about any place to live. Must have room to park boat and be willing to provide gas money. I will supply seafood when the fishing is good.

Guys hows that for a personal ad. Is there a 12 step program for fishaholics
Maybe some new experimental drug that can help.
The current drug my wife uses hasn't been working lately I guess my head is getting harder.

Well cowboy up and lets get'em.

OK so Help me out here guys! I have a good friend that has a nice boat in Ilwalco. Can we get some good holes that we can motor to?

If we leave out of the columbia do we need to come in at Garibaldi to be legal or can we just fish south of Falcon?

My Friend is from Idaho and is planning to come up for a round of silvers and nookies and is excieted to say the least about another day after the big buts. But I doubt he is into motoring back down to Newport to catch some.

IF you don't want to publish the course please e-mail me privately.

Thanks
Nellie

Thanks for the good common sense advice. I never head out with out a float plan left with my wife or parents. I would only be going if my frind in the much larger boat than mine (mine is 28) was going.

After checking in with ODFW we would need to dock at Garabaldi after we caught a big halibut. Then we could head back to the mooring in the Columbia. Dennis at Tillamook bait was willing to e-mail me some coordinates - Thanks Dennis.

Not sure if I am going to go or not but I wanted to check it out.

Woa Nellie,

Sorry, couldn't resist.

We don't have info for Garabaldi. We head out of Newport.

If you have your heart set on Garabaldi I would follow a charter ONLY if your vessle is large enough, is equiped for the ocean and seaworthy and is staffed with an experienced captain.

Make no mistake about it. Big Blue will kill you if you do not take the necessary precautions. Also make certain that you have enough fuel. The Coast Guard recomends that you return with 1/3 the fuel you left with. Friends of mine have had to stay out when that bar has closed and wait for hours before it was opened again. Be prepared. I would also strongly encourage you to leave a float plan with a responsible person that will follow up and check on you if you fail to return or contact them on time. You should ALWAYS contact someone to let them know you are off the water safely. On more than one occasion the Coasties have been searching for people that were having dinner or celebrating in a pub, safe and dry.

I'm not trying to scare you... Well maybe just a little. But if you are equiped and ready I hope you have a great time.

The Garabaldi bar is a close second to the Columbia River bar and changes fast. Pay attention to the weather.

Hope you have fun....

Good luck Nellie,

Hope I didn't go overboard on the advice but there are a lot of folks on this board and ya can never be too careful.

Let us know how you do .
