Prep H ??
Just read where RT says Preparation H is a good atractor for Salmon. I was wondering what other houshold or medicine cabinet items make for better fishing.
Clealy an old favorite is WD-40. I once heard of someone using a gummy worm? Also put some Bluing in with your herring bait to give it color.

Re: Prep H ??
Try Crest toothpaste on your plugs, it works. The abrasive part of the toothpaste cleans and shines and the smell takes off the human scent.

Re: Prep H ??
My Boss just read the preparation H post and told me a story I have got to share.
Several months ago my Boss had the flu and had spent many days on the throne. His backside was hurting to say the least. On one of his visits he noticed what apeared to be some wet wipes (baby wipes)sitting on the counter next to the toilet.
He thought that this might be soothing to try some and aleviate some of the pain.
What at first seemed a good idea turned into screams that could be heard for miles. Baby wipes no, But those new clorox wipes was left on the counter by his wife.
I hope Y'all will get as good a laugh as I did.

Re: Prep H ??
Cureless,
I know guys that swear by Lemon Joy dishwashing liquid for cleaning plugs/Kwikfish etc.Have heard Deschutes guides say that they can guarantee a bite on a plug right after a good scrubbing with Joy and a toothbrush. Prep H also works as a great hand softener after several days of fishing with eggs and they start getting dry/cracked, etc. Bag Balm works the same way.

Re: Prep H ??
I noticed alot of hookups 2 years ago when washing my hands with that Ultra Joy (the clear stuff). Most often...I use NO scent...and have plenty of success.

Re: Prep H ??
Im begining to think that lemon is a good scent.
I was cleaning up my rods one day using Lemon Pledge. The guy at the Loomis Pro hop said to use Pledge on the wood reel seat. Later on that day I made a run up to the river. I went to a very popular hole that always has people fishing it. I talked to a couple people that said the fishing was real slow. I rigged up using just a corky and yarn, no scent. I ended up hooking 2 steelhead and a springer. No one else touched a fish while I was there. My rod stilled smelled like lemon. And I know some of the smell was on my hands.
So who is going to try rubbing a fresh cut lemmon on there bait?

Re: Prep H ??
Hey Mike, I discovered (for myself - others likely for themselves) about some fishy smelling things from around the house that I tried just because of smell and ingredients - and they all worked well. One was Spectrum brand Flax Oil for a custom scent base (due to the mildly fishy taste and the high content of omega-3 oil in it). Another was DMSO. I used it on my injured ankles back in my basketball days and within moments after carefully applying it to clean sterile skin the taste of clams appeared in my mouth (I've heard others claim the same). And it smells fishy in the bottle. It also is the best organic cell penetrant that I know of - so I combined those 2 factors and tried 70% DMSO solution with scent additives in it and had some better sucess at times with it - and worse others times (so the jury is still out - but it is among the good "adjusters/enhancers" for finding what they are in the mood for). I also posted over a year ago (use search feature) about using Prep H on lures for 'nooks. It got nada response. I first tried it on Wiggle Warts after reading the label about fish liver oil and chems 'nooks like sometimes, and it worked well in small amounts. Then this year I was informed first hand by a part-time guide friend that during this year's excellant Columbia springer run that the Prep H was the hot ticket in a few hog lines ("butt wax rules"). So others likely had the same idea, and it works fine. ...
Some other household items that are sometimes effective attractants or bite enhancers are vanilla (extract or powder), sugar & jello (duh), quality garlic powder, very small amounts of car engine oil additive (thickeners of viscosity), canned tuna and oil, clear Caro syrup, slices of summer saugage (fats and nitrates in it), and red lipstick. And other things . I am beginning to think 'nooks may like a whole lot of things that people like to eat, and may be irritated into striking offensive things not for eating. That leaves a world of things to experiment with!
