Default Mid-size truck?

Just for laughs, and a looooong shot maybe!! Which would you get, and your only picks are Nissan titan king cab, Toyota Tundra double cab, Ford F-150 crew, Dodge Dakota crew?? Just to see what opinions we have........... LOL.

Of those? The Toyota is several levels above the rest. I like Toyota and Honda since they actually work instead of being designed to fail.

I am asking because I have heard good reviews of the Tundra and the up and coming Titan. I also included the others for popularity reasons.

The Tundra is rated best by Consumer Reports. Of those choices, I would either go with the Tundra or the Ford.

I have a GMC 2500 HD and it tows my 18500 lb boat and trailer very well, last trip I got 9.9 MPG with this load, to the coast. with out a boat on the rear I get 19.8 MPG on the freeway, in town I get about 17MPG. Lots of power from the Duramax and six speed Allison. It is a crew cab with a short box. Good luck with your new truck.

I think if it ever happens, I am going to lean Toyota's way, but then again, I been reading on the Nissan Titan.

I bought an '04 F150 Last December (2nd owner - 34800 miles). After 8-times in the shop and still nearly leaving me and my boat by the side of the road (now with 57500 miles), I traded it for an '02 GMC Sierra with 46500 miles. Just came back from Newport with the boat, wife and a whole lotta' junk with absolutely no problems. I wanted to work the 4.8 a bit on the way back and climbed a few of those passing lanes with my foot well into the pedal. The 4.8 had no problems at all. The 5.4 in the Ford was bigger, but never felt as powerful as the 4.8 does. Besides, without the boat the Ford only got about 17 mpg, while the GMC gets better than 20mpg. With the boat, the Ford would get 15-16mpg if I babied it. The GMC got 15mpg when I was intentionally running it hard, so I should get better than that under normal driving conditions.

That's been my experience so far with these two trucks.

No contest. #1 --- Toyota; #2 --- Nissan. Nobody else is even in the race.

Why not buy a truck that will still be here in 250,000 miles?

I'll actually be taking this step in the next 6 months or so. I'll be leaning towards the Tundra and Titan. Like Thumper said, they'll run forever.

I like the look of the Titan, the Tundra body style looks like a metal version of a sucker fish, and it looks lower. Maybe a 2005-2006 Tundra if I do go Toyota!

I know it's unpopular, but I love my Dodge Dakota. Purchased new in 1993, it's got 140,000 miles on it before I had to retire it for larger towing capacity. I never had any troubles with it - all I had to do was change the oil every 10k or so. What did I buy? ... a Ram 2500.

I'm really impressed with the Tundra, but... it has one of the lowest cargo capacity ratings among mid-sized trucks. Several camper company web-sites warn that the Toyota and I believe Nissan trucks will not carry standard camper weights like the US brands will, although some of the camper companies have special-built lightweight units specifically for Toyota (and Nissan?).

My 1988 4x4 Toyota with 190K miles is still running great, although the 1997 Expedition with 150K has been a remarkably good rig too and gets all the boat duty. Give me a F-250 like Toyota though, and I'm there!

Ford F-150

I like mine...2006. Would buy one again if I wanted a mid-sized truck.

My next will be a diesel. Have heard they will have a diesel in the O9 that will get 25mpg.

However will probably go with a F-350 diesel.

I could be wrong but the only "mid sized" pickup in your lineup is the Dodge Dakota. The rest are full sized pickups.

You are correct only the Dakota is a mid-sized truck. The F150, Titan, and New Tundra(not old Tundra)are full sized half ton trucks. The first Tundra was marketed as a full size but was really much smaller and maybe fell in between a mid-size and full size. Truthfully I would choose none of the above and buy a Chevy Silverado. I currently own a 04' F150 and although the F150 from an astetic point of view clearly has Tundra and Titan beat we all know that from a longevity stand point that Toyota and Nissan will usually be on top. If either the Toyota Tundra(the new Tundra has got to be the oddest/goofiest looking truck on the market) or Nissan Titan would make a good looking truck they would probably catch up to Fords F150 sales in short order. I base my buying decisions on service after the sale, and in that department Ford has been a dissapointment. I have heard nothing but good things about Toyota and Nissan. All vehicles will have problems from time to time it is all about how they are handled.

I drive a '00 tundra, 3" lift, 33" cooper stt's, custom wheels, brush guard, etc. and it's a great looking truck. It has had it's share of mechanical problems, so I'm thinking toyotas aren't as reliable as they once were. I've heard the titan isn't very reliable, rated pretty poorly in consumer digest. My wife likes the f-150, tho she says its a girly man truck . I'm waiting to see if the new tundras are quality rigs and if I can get used to the new style, maybe a diesel in the fututer?

That's what I was thinking.

Wouldn't the Tacoma and Frontier be the mid-size pickups from Toyota and Nissan?
