Knight High presure sabot problems.
Any of you muzzleloader shooters have problems with these.Ive used them in the past in my .54 cal. With good results.Easy to use and load.Accurate.
Been shooting Power belts the last year or so with ok results, but not great.
Decided to try the Knights in my Bighorn 50 cal the other day.I bought a few packs of the 310 grain hollow point lead sabots. The bullets wouldnt seat flat in the sabot.Hard to load. really hard to start straight. It was so bad the tab ends of the sabot were deforming when trying t get them started. They were so hard to seat that I was worrying about too much pressure and breaking or bending my ramrod.I couldnt believe it.
It looked to me like the bullet was too large a diameter for the sabot. Now that I think about it.I'm going to get out some calipers and check.
There is no way a guy would want to use these on a hunt.It would take forever to reload for a second shot because of the issues mentioned.
Just curious if any of you have ran into this.

Oh ya, I got away from the power belts because of a bunch of research on them.Plus so so accuracy.I was using the 295 grain bullets.I may give them another try in 348grain or larger.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I had similar trouble with the Barnes bullet/sabot combo. I substituted Nosler sabots ment for pistol bullets, problem solved! Loads easily, very accurate, deadly on game.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I use the 310 knight bullets and we have never had a problem. 1 inch groups at 100 yards on the bench. When the barrel gets a little dirty from shooting they get harder and harder to seat.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I'm having problems with a clean barrel! Swabbing after every shot.I doubt I could get 1 all the way down after a couple dirty shots
Big Tule,
How much and what type powder are you using.
I seem to do best with 110 grains of pyrodex select

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I was up shooting last week. It took me to my 7th shot before it started to cake up and it started tossing bullets.
After 7 shots it was getting tough to push bullets down the barrel. And i quit at 9, my last 2 shots were high and way right.
We use the same stuff i have posted, we took 3 bulls last year, all shot at 100 yards 1 shot each.
I use 110 grains of pyrodex pellets.

Shot 9 shots out of my Rem 700 .54 cal with the 310's and never had a problem. Have used them the last 6 years and killed 5 bulls with them. I wouldn't change. I use 100 grains of pyrodex!

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I never had a problem with the 310s out of my 54 cal Knight Wolverine either.Just the Bighorn
I put a call into Knight, they said try a little spit on the sabot:frown: It dont work
Went to Bobs today.Told the guys behind the counter about whats happenning. They said theyve been hearing it a lot.As I was talking to them another guy came up and chimed in that he had the same problem. While looking for an alternative bullet I also talked to another guy that said him and his partner had the same problem.
Thats at least 4 guys in just a matter of moments.
I picked up some Powerbelt 348 grns.I'm going to pick up some TC bullets lso and see what I can come up with
Will also be looking for the Nosler sabots.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I've had great results from Precision Rifle bullets... I use the in my TC. They are extremely accurate.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
Try Harvester "crush rib" sabots. I use 375 grain Bufflo bullets in my T/C Black Diamond, but I replace all the sabots with the Harvester sabots, and they load much easier. You can get them from Cabelas.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I used to use the 310's in my 50 Wolverine. They always were a little stiff down the bore. I've noticed that some Knight bores are tighter than others. The 310's I think have too much tin in the lead making them too hard. They penetrate well but dont mushroom much at all and they dont carry down range well at longer distances.
What color are your sabots? The black ones are for the 50. I think the 54 cal. are red. The 310 bullet should be 45 cal. and the only diff between 50 and 54 is the thickness of the sabot petals. (Pretty sure anyway)
If your in the market for a new bullet try the Buffalo Bullets Special Saboted Bullet. Its a 375 grain boat tailed hollow point spitzer style bullet in a MMP high pressure sabot.
They sell them at Cabelas in 30 packs. I havent yet found a bullet that will beat them for accuracy, terminal performance, or long range (150 yard) performance on elk or deer.
I wouldnt recomend powerbelts. They arent the best for accuracy and thier performance on game is poor at best. They have a bad tendancy to pancake out and fragment with little penetration.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
I agree with that the Powerbelts aren't the best performers, although a lot of people like them. They also leave a lot of lead in my bore.
Cabelas is out of the Buffalo Bullets. I heard a rumor that the Buffalo Bullet company is out of business, but I don't know if that's true or not. My brother was able to find some at www.cheaperthandirt.com.

Re: Knight High presure sabot problems.
Found the Buffalo Bullets at The Gun Shop in Longview!
Life is getting better.I put almost a box of 36 through the Bighorn today. Will be headed back to get another box tomorrow.I got the same bullet that Chesapeake mentioned but in 325 grain. If they have 375s in stock I may get a box of those to try also.
They did have a pretty good selection. And I'm liking what I see so far. They load like they should, and are accurate to boot.
Thanks for the heads up.
My sabots are black.Your right about the color for the caliber.Yes the 50 and 54 use a 45 bullet
