Need your help with Algebra
Actually,
I need to find either some software, or a book with basic Algebra lessons, I am terrible at math, and have to get a good grade in College Level Algebra this year.
Anyone ever try any software or a dummies guide to Algebra, and If so, was it helpful, and easy to learn?
I am willing to put in the time, but i need something that is designed for folks that just are not mathematically inclined.
Your assistance is most appreciated.
DB

Re: Need your help with Algebra
Algebra, the field of mathematics invented in Persia (now known as Iran) isn't really Al-Jebra, but the founder's name was Mohammed.
Understanding and being able to do it requires understanding what it describes and why it's useful, otherwise it's just formulas. Spend some time reading the entry on wikipedia.com, then check out algebra.com.

Re: Need your help with Algebra
You might check on campus for a tutor. You might get a good looking one at that. Double up! As far as Algebra goes, I'm still stuck on my times tables and subtraction stumps me often as well:o. Good luck, BH

Give Josh a call (previously PM'd info). Last I heard he works dirt cheap. <$20 a lesson.

I know this sounds like weird advice. (No offense, Pete.) But, it actually worked for me when I took trig. in college. I got a "B," and went on to take 2 more terms of calculus, plus a year of physics with calculus.
I had reached a saturation point trying to memorize different theorems, and what not. So, I got online, and read about what trig. was, who discovered some of the fundamental concepts, etc. It really worked.
Often times the campus bookstore will carry a supplemental help guide for math texts. Tutors are good, and so is lots and lots of practice. I asked my physics professor if there was an easier way, and his reply was "Nope." Also, get yourself in a study group, with people who seem to be doing well in the class.
If all else fails, and it is not mandatory for you to get a "C" or higher, remember "D" sometimes stands for "DONE." Then, move on.

How true! My undergraduate transcripts contain a few "D's" - - actually, I worked very hard for those "D's." 'No "D's" on my graduate record, though. Don

Re: Need your help with Algebra
I started to say find a friend or relative. Then I remembered that those people generally need to stay friends and relatives.
Check at the high schools and community colleges for a tutor. If you can't spend money, try barter. And if it helps (yeah, right) algebra is like a jigsaw puzzle. You have to learn how to make the border and then fill in the rest. Good luck.

Re: Need your help with Algebra
Your bookstore should have a study book with a disk available. I used the disk a few times when I got stuck. When the disk didn't help, I went to the math tutoring center which proved to be very helpful. Talk to some students in your class to see if a study group might be helpful.
If your medical program is anything like down here at Chemeketa, you will need straight A's to even be considered for acceptance into the program.

Re: Need your help with Algebra
We have a math learning center on campus (free) at Kidder 108. Start there.
