UW is understandably worried about losing their reign on the Pac 10. Oops, too late. That started when Ricky Sweatervest took over. As for the *ucks ( [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] ), who cares. They are one good sack away from being cellar dwellers. Not that they don't deserve some credit for being pretty good for quite a while. But that about covers it. Just fork over the bucks for your bowl game and sit down. If Joey Billboard gets racked up, they are done. While the Beavs appear to be pretty interchangeable all across the way. Maybe a little shallow at QB, but if Simonton goes down, McCall would lead the Pac 10 in rushing. Good point about Fresno. Erickson has a history of padding his schedules early, so no surprise there, but Fresno might be a little tough. My only hope is that there are no repeats of the thuggery we saw in the ND game last year. Yeesh [img]images/icons/mad.gif[/img]

If he does the same thing he did at Colorado pretty soon the Huskies will be looking up at the top 25. If you want to check records? what is the win loss recods between the Ducks and the Huskies in the last 10 years.

Although I love my Dawgs to death, they are gonna get clobbered by Miami and Michigan.

It's going to be an ugly season for the Dawgs.

The only reason the Dawgs won't lose two games against the Oregon teams this year is that we don't play Oregon!!!!!

The Dawgs are way too young. They *might* have a good team next year....but not this year.

I'm just saying that there's no F*ing way OSU is ranked #1. Tell that to Florida....or Miami.

I have to respond to your reply. You all should know that the Dawgs are always in the top 25 at first of the season and then after a couple of weeks end up in the top 10. Then after a couple more weeks top 5 then we should be #1 but the political BS down south will always give it to UM/FSU/UF.

Hey Parker. You are right about one thing. The Dawgs do have as tough a schedule as you can have to start the season. I do like the fact that they do schedule these tough games. Strength of schedule does mean a lot. Oregon is now figuring that out by doing home and home series with Wisconsin last year and this year, as well as Michigan the next 2 years. I am disapointed we will not be playing the Huskies this year.

As a current student at OSU, all I can say is things are really looking up for our furry little team. What a great season last year! What an even better one we'll have this year! Sure am going to enjoy watching Joey "Heisman" choke at the Civil War game. Again I mean.

Anyone who doesn't think the beavers are not a serious force to be reckoned with might as well be wearing a Notre Dame shirt.

Ricky Sweatervest and the dawgs have lost it. Period.

*ucks are overrated. Above us in all the other polls? What the heck is that about??? Seems like the beating we gave them last year should mean something to those pollsters. And what kind of a Heisman candidate chokes on the single most important game of his career? How many interceptions was that? Butterfingers!

For all those of you who don't think the Beavs are deserving of their ranking, I have to ask you: What was the pre-season ranking of OSU last year and what did we end up ranked in the country by the end of the year? You mean we went up??!!! Hmmmm. Can't improve from #1. Guess we'll just have to work on turning the other polls around.

SI may have jumped the gun a bit by placing us 1st this early on, but come Bowl time we'll be right up there in all the other polls too.

Birdhunter, Don't start talking about Notre Dame. They didn't belong in the Fiesta Bowl last year nor were they anywhere near a top 25 team. Anything less than a 35 point win against that team would have to be considered a moral defeat. The only Pac 10 team who had any competition last year was the Ducks. If I remember right we beat a very good Texas Longhorns team. I believe the Huskies beat Purdue in the Rose Bowl. Why not? The third best team in the Pac 10 vs. the third best team in the Big 10.

Unlike the girlie-men down south, the Dawgs aren't afraid to play a tough schedule. We played one last year, and look what it got us.......an 11-1 record, a Pac-10 Co-Championship, a Rose Bowl VICTORY (been a while for one of those huh, Ducks and Beavs?) and a final #3 ranking. Yeah, the Dawgs have lost it.........

You want the records, huh stz? From 1990 to present, it's 6-5 UW (you can call it 5-5 over the last ten if you want). In that same time span UW has played in 9 Bowls, 4 Rose Bowls, had 3 Rose Bowl wins, 1 National Championship (we ALL know UW was better'n UM) and overall the series is 49-30-4 in favor of UW. Ahhh, the ol' "meaningless past" argument! What else are you going to rely on? The future games? Okay, then, UW will go 100-0 in their next 100 "future" games. Gee, that was easy.
The hard part is going 10-0 against OSU over the last 10. And throw in the 8 Bowls, 3 Rose Bowls, 2 RB wins. and a #3 Final ranking last year and you see that hard work is EXPECTED at Montlake.

For you Beavs...So this coroner goes to uncover his last body of the night to begin an autopsy. He takes off the guys shirt, and on his chest he sees a big tattoo that reads "Oregon State" in big, bold, orange and black letters. He snickers, rolls the guy over, and notices a bid OSU tattooed on the guys back. "This guy must be a big Beaver fan", thinks the coroner. He proceeds with his autopsy, when he notices a cork stuck in the guys ******. He looks for a second, scratches his head, and pulls the cork out. Suddenly, he hears a noise--"OSU our hats are off to you"...he shoves the cork back in. "Man, that was weird" thinks he. So, in disbelief, he pulls the cork out again--"OSU our hats are off to you"..."Dohhhh--this is some weird stuff" thinks the now confused coroner. "I better grab the medical examiner." Pretty quick, in strolls the Medical Examiner. "Doctor, Doctor, just pull out the cork, and you wont believe your ears", says the now thoroughly spooked coroner. So the Medical examiner pulls the cork out, when he hears--"OSU our hats are off to you"...The young coroner says " see what I mean Doctor, isn't that the strangest thing you've ever heard??" The old Medical examiner just shakes his head and says "Actually no...Ive heard lots of A$$HOLES sing that song!!!!"

Only stats that matter are head to head, recent matchups. I believe in the last 7 years its 5-2 Oregon. Oh yeah, always remember...it takes a shotgun to knock down a Duck. All you gotta do is kick a Dawg, and it goes whimpering off.

Parker, gotta admit two things:
1) SI or not, I can't see the Beavs being number 1, not in the end. Even if they play well enough for it, they probably won't get it (christ, that sounds like something a Dawg would say).

Dan, I guess this depends on which century you think we are in now (millenium and all that crap), but technically, the Beavs won at least one Rose Bowl in the 20th century, and I think the Ducks did too. Just a point.

Do I think the Beavs are number 1 in the country? Not really, though I'd like to see it, I'd rather they got back into the top 25 in Basketball. However, fact is it's likely to be an off year for the Dawgs, even diehards admit it.

Jen, NO FAIR. We have purple smilies, yellow (not GOLD, yellow dammit) smilies, and green smilies, but where are our black and orange smilies??

Seems that a Beaver was driving south from Corvallis at the same time a Duck was
driving north from Eugene and they happened to meet head-on in a horrible
crash on I-5. Miraculously, both climbed out of the steaming wreckage...their
bodies intact. They examined the twisted metal and realized that they were
truly lucky to be alive. The Beever said, "This must be a sign from God that we
should end the bitter rivalry that we have had since the beginning of time."
The Duck agreed...he went to his trunk and pulled out an unbroken bottle of
whiskey. "This is truly remarkable," he said, "God must want us to toast our
new-found friendship." He twisted the cap off and handed the bottle to the beever,
who took several big swigs, wiped his chin and handed the bottle back.
The Duck replaced the cap, and without a word, put the bottle back into his
trunk. "Aren't you going to celebrate our luck?" asked the beever. Nah, I thing
I'll just wait for the troopers to get here"

God I love saying that.

I didn't watch the whole game, but UW had all their starters etc., right? I mean, we don't have to listen to any "Yeah, but" whining do we?

Is UW going to go further this year, sure. Are they a better overall football team, might be. But.....SCOREBOARD!!!!

Oh I just can't stand it!!

Did you get a pic of the SCOREBOARD? Well, then you can have something to look at over the holidays......you know, when teams like UW are going bowling. Hey, you could use the photo as a bookmark in the SI magazine that had you at preseason #1.

Just kidding, Beavs put a clinic on the Dawgs. Good win for them, and if OSU finds a way to get by UO, then maybe you guys will find your way to a bowl game.

DanS, as an OSU grad, I learned long ago to take pictures of all winning scoreboards, and pieces of the goalposts as well if possible. You never know when it will come around again.
As for SI, I was too irritated about the jinx factor to buy one or believe the hype.
