Thanks OneLastCast. I talked to the fella at the marina and he said they had been fighting a lot of moss but it has cleared up. Also said the fishing was not hot but there seems to be a few caught each day. Chinook are hitting the big herring and the silvers are going for the smaller herring. He is very low on herring and could not even promise me he would have any so ill stop at Tillamook Bait Shop on the way over. Thanks again. CAgey.

Hello cagey - I will be staying in Manzanita Sat. thru Sat. My boat - the "Ripple" has a motor that died an untimely death due to a bad VRO oil pump. So I will be in my driftboat 16' Lavro w/ 8 h.p. outboard. I want to be fishing the jetties, but will be watching it VERY CAREFULLY w/ tide, wind, etc. If I don't feel comfortable down there I may launch at the state ramp & fish Wheeler, Nehalem areas.........
Good luck to you and be safe! that bar can be unfriendly at times.

Ripple, if you are going to be fishing Nehalem or Wheeler don't launch at the State ramp. That leaves some considerable distance through some choppy water to get up river.
Launch at either the county ramp just South of Nehalem or the Wheeler ramp and you will be right where you want to be.

Yes that bay can be a real ripper. We always watch it real close and take no chances. Seems like once you motor past the State Ramp the bay is capable of getting your feet wet. If its rough we may motor on down to the bridge and fish around down there. We will keep an eye out for you. Hope to see you there. I dont know how much stock to put in it but the marina says big herring are taking the chinook and he doesn't have any but Marie at T Bait co, has them. Have about 25 pkgs left at 5.99 a package. Have a good one. Cagey.

Sorry Cagey, no report more current then last weekend which was really slow.
Every morning on the way to work I swing by the county boat launch and around Nehalem and check out the boats with the binocs. I have seen two fish caught by the bridge in Nehalem in the last four mornings. Realize I am only checking it out for about 15 minutes each time.
Good luck to you.

I fished the Nehalem Wednesday, first I put in at the public ramp in Wheeler and trolled herring from about 8-11 am. Hooked 1 blue back, and had 1 take take down that got the bait. We then put the drift boat back on the trailer and headed to the launch at Brighton Marina to fish the mouth for the incoming. We had our bait in the water by noon and landed 1 silver 10 pulls out at 1 pm but had too many fins. The fishing seemed a little slow, I dropped down to 30 pulls, and WHAM! boat a 20-25lb Nookie. Only fished until 3 o'clock, but I was fishing the edge of the tide rip using a green delta diver, 5' leader with bead swivel half way down, and some Fresh Herring from T-Bait co.

Hope this helps, have a good one and remember not to net your fish until you know it's a keeper!
