How to make SMELLYJELLY!!!!!!!!!
Well, I thought I would pass this along to all of you guys that have given out scent and cure recipies on the BB. I was given the secret recipie for smellyjelly quite a few years ago by my brother inlaw, and it is easy to make.
Here's what you need.
A small sauce pan
A brick of parrifin wax
A jar of vasiline
Pro cure Red Dye (not cure)
You're favorite scents (oils only)
Here's what you do.
Warm up the sauce pan on a low heat. (I don't even contact the pan to the burner). Then add the vasiline. Let it turn to liquid. Again, keep the heat low. Then add the parrifin.
Now the tricky part is the ration between the vasiline and the parrifin. I use about a 5:1 ratio, vasiline to pariffin. If you use too much wax, it ends up like a candle, too much vasiline and it ends up like, well, vasiline.
Once the parrifin and vasiline are liquid, mix them well. Then add squirts of your favorite bait oils. A sample mix would be a squirt of crawdad and herring oil for kings.
Then stirr all the contents together while still liquid. Then add a few grains of red pro cure dye. Not too much of this. The dye doesn't like to dissolve in the oil well, so you have to really stir the crap out of it.
You can add a little sodium sulfate or nitrate to the mix too, but like the dye it doesn't like to dissolve well and will usually stay suspended in the mix when it cools.
Then I take the sauce pan and put it in the sink which has about 3" of cold water in it and super-cool the mixture to see what the consistency is. If it is too waxy, I just heat it up and add more vasiline.
Then I pour it in old snuff cans, and catch fish.
Good luck with this. If anyone has any more Ideas for this recipie post them here please!
