Default Infrared Images of a Dying Lake [NEW-how I did these images]

Rosylin Lake is about to be extinct and even though there is still water flowing into the lake there is certainly alot less flow already with Marmot dam now down. I wanted to drop by there on my way home from my old house and see if the lake was drained. Since it had not been drained as of yet I decided to take some very special images to remember the lake by when the lake and myself are long gone from the area. I plan to leave the area soon but have had many good trout flyfishing moments on the lake.

Goodbye Blue Sky

There was always a great Hexagina mayfly hatch in mid summer and often larger hold over trout keyed only to naturals would feed on them. The takes on a hex dry was always a loud hard splash and often produced fish in the 15" range. Some nights produced clouds of the huge yellow mayflys that was just neet to watch. Often flocks of swallows would swoop in and feed heavy on those that emerged and escaped the waters surface. Spent many a warm night waiting for the hatch and the rise that would follow to start. Perhaps one of the strongest hex hatches in the state I have ever seen.

Worldly Reflections

Although we all agree that it is best for the river to remove the dam it is still kind of sad to see Rosylin drained after many years of fun times.

you said 4 minute exposure..? how did you drown out the light, so it didn't become so bright? I have that problem when trying to get those types of shots. do you have a high number on the f-stop?

Infrared filter is almost black...If you hold it to the light you can not see through it. Infact it means you have to frame your composition before you put the filter on. I could have gone 5 minutes for a higher contrast value. The hard part is getting the camera to fire when it is saying no sir I can not see anything to focus on or meter, sir...what should I do? I tell it to fire anyways : )

First normal shot to test composition..

Then apply the filter and change settings.

[above] This is what the original infrared image looks like. This is a digital art and much photoshop CS3 editing is used to get the digital art look of the final images below. That is another story...

This is the final image after editing

Ahh I love it also make sure your DSLR can shoot infrared I know my Camera and any pentex DSLR will not take the pics they just will not turn out. they have some kind of filter that kills the shot rp
