what do you think of the new tag material?
I hadnt see this new tag material till today when I picked up my elk tag from the ODFW.
Supposedly the material is water proof and floats. The issuing agent tore a sample off the machine for me. It wont tear easily, but it stretches like plastic. Reminds me of a shopping bag.
Not sure how the fish tags will be to record with a pen on it, but as an elk/deer tag it looks pretty indestructible (till you stretch it and cant read it anymore )

Seems pretty good to me. Takes up less space in the wallet too. I hope to find out how easy that material is to notch out here in a couple days.......

When you sign it.. if you press too hard on the first letter.. it will grab and stick:shocked: Seems like it should hold up though.

That was my experience too.
It was weird writing on the first time. I like it though.

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
Gonna have to find a pen that works on it for the salmon tag, and keep the knife point sharp to cut out the date for tagging big game, and look twice to make sure I have the right tag, but it's not like we have any choice technology keeps rolling on.

I was told not to leave it exposed to the sun (by the *** clerk) as it can turn black.

Let me add that drying it in a warm oven is a bad idea if it's the same stuff we use here. Don't ask how I know.

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
They could have made the printing a litttle LARGER so they would be easyer read and tell apart when you are all excited trying to use it !!!!

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
It is like Idaho's kinda. I like it much smaller takes up less room in wallet. But for someone with not so good vision it would be tough to read.

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
I guess my question is.....
What happens to the printing in 10yrs? I mean they say we can't have horns on a skull w/o a tag on it, but if the tag printing fads and/or paper turns black what good is it?
What happens to it long term while exposed heat, UV, rain, etc?
Me thinks I need to do a little Quality Control testing.....I might know someone that could do that.
Duplicates don't cost anything do they?????

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
I don't know anything about them turning black, but when I shot my bull earlier this Seprtember it rained for a good while and the tag stayed together and was still there when we got back to camp.

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
I don't mind the material, but I would like tags to look different from other "receipt-like substances." I can't anticipate a problem, since my tags get segregated from all other similar scraps of paper, but an identifying color, logo, embossing would be nice. That said, I support the movement, especially if it makes the whole system work more smoothly.

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
The clerk at Bi-mart put a piece through the shredder. Folded it like an accordian, but only one slight cut. Seems tough, but does look rather generic.

Re: what do you think of the new tag material?
Use an ultra fine point sharpie to fill out the tag, and sign your name.
They don't cut easily..with a knife cutting out the month and day of harvest. Figured out a pair of nail clippers makes it neat and you don't ger two days or months when you do it.

I'd like to see a ferensic evidence tag in the future. A tag that would cut down on hunters who shoot more than what the law allows. Could work for salmon tags too.
I don't have trouble getting a deer or elk it's just that I think it's the only way to send a message to those who think they are subsistance hunting and fishing.
I think the new tag is an idea from the ODF&W accountants. Less expensive than the earlier tags.
Costco used to use a red tape on the customers reciept so they could be ready to pass the Costco customs when leaving the store. A few years ago they quit using the tape. Reason? The tape was costng many thousands of dollars a year.. I imagine this new system will save thousands ... too over time.
