Recovered a Barnes TSX!
I managed to recover a TSX bullet from the brown bear I shot last Saturday. I shot the bear twice with my .375 H&H. My bear load was a 270gr TSX bullet over a stiff charge of RL-15.
The first shot was a pass-through on both shoulders, which put the animal down. It got back up on its hind legs and thrashed around a bit, biting at its shoulder. I put a second shot into it, to anchor it to the river bank - no chasing brown bears in the dense brush for me, thank you very much!
For the second shot, the bear was on its side, facing away from me. The bullet entered behind a shoulder, near the spine. It broke several ribs on the way in, and paralleled the spine all the way to the base of the skull. The reacted to the second shot like it was hit by lightning. Lights out! The second TSX had traveled through about 3 feet of brown bear, punctured the skin to leave, but never exited. We found the bullet when skinning the animal; it just popped out and fell in my lap. A perfect X-Bullet mushroom - just like the magazine ads. I weighed the bullet, once I got home, and it weighed 270 grains. Pretty tough to beat that kind of performance.
This was my first experience with Barnes bullets on game. With this kind of performance, though, I don't think it will be my last.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
UMM WHERE ARE THE BEAR PICS!!!!!!!??????
Very good perfromance, I have never hunted something as tuff as a Brown bear, but for deer and close range elk I prefer Ballistic tips. I want my bullet to go in and blow up. Of course bullet size and caliber play a part but I have never been one for retention although on something like a bear you want that bullet to go through anything including bone which I could imagine on a brown bear would be huge and a ballistic tip would deem worthless on a brow bear shoulder. I really have the itch to load some TSX's up after hearing many good reports
thanks for the pictures, Interesting to see these kinda things!!
we need bear pictures!!!!!

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
I've got some bear pics, but they didn't turn out too good. I whacked it right at dark. We snapped a few quick photos and got the heck out of there.
Rolled up the next morning, after skinning.
I'll post the story in another thread.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
I have experienced the same kind of performance on elk with the tsx. Sharp 1/4 away shot with a 7-08. The bullet entered on the last rib and was pushing out the skin in front of the shoulder. My guess was at least 3' of penetration with 100% weight retention. No need to post a picture because it is exactly like yours!
Good stuff.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
Great performance! I am yet to recover a bullet that looks anywhere close to that and retains that kind of mass. Nice bear BTW.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
Now I am going to have to try them. Load a few before I go to colorado see how they perform.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
I decided to swap to the barnes TSX's in my 300 rum. I was able to shoot a better group with them then any other round I have shot. I also recovered a few bullets from the sand behind my target and they looked very similar.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
I've killed deer, elk, moose, and Alaska brown bear with the tsx's. Perfect performance every time! More accurate than the other "premium" bullets I've tried as well. No reason to even try anything else.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
Yeti says 3' penetration on an elk with a 7mm-08 WOW that is making the "smaller" cal rifles Elk Guns. I plan on working up loads.
The reload data is a little scarce out there for 7mmSAUM I have.
Can anyone tell me Is the tsx pure copper or an alloy?

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
Used a 140gr TSX in 7mm mag to take an antelope head on at 85 yards a couple years ago; same results!
Bullet entered just off center of the point of the brisket, left a hole that you could put your fist through, went full length and broke the opposite femur just below the ball and socket.
Bullet lodged inside of hide and fell out when skinning; bonus- did not bloodshot the ham with the broken femur!Weighed 142 grains when I got home; had a little meat and dried blood on it!
Looked identical to your pictures.

Yes they are 100% copper. I just bought some to try out for elk season. Glad to hear (and see) that they perform so well.

Re: Recovered a Barnes TSX!
The TSX is the real deal. They're typically very accurate and we all know about the performance.
They're definately changing the way people look at smaller big game calibers.
