They should be feeding right now. Storing up fat for the long winter ahead. Find the bait you should find the fish! Never fished that Lake so I not sure what baitfish are in there. But food is everything right now for them.

I had the same result on the CR around Gov Island Wednesday. We fished the same water 2-3 weeks ago, and killed them (not literally, all c&r). Where we'd catch 4-6 fish on most spots, yesterday we struggled to get a bite. The water was way down from the last time we fished it, which could be a contributing factor. The water clarity was also better yesterday too. Still managed a few fish, but had to work hard to get them.

I fished my regular hot spots at the end of last week and had the same results. Very few bites and I threw everything I had outside of live bait. The Tualatin, Molalla, Pudding and where the mouth of the Molalla dumps into the Willy were all very slow Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is my first fall season fishing so I don't know if it is normal but I keep hearing how good fall can be. Hopefully it will pick up soon. Or, hopefully I can figure out what they will bite on!

I think both things are a factor - low water and clarity. I've been seeing 5'+ clarity on the CR lately and I haven't seen that in the last 3 years of fishing it. Perhaps this rain will cloud things up a little and add some excess water to the pools.

I've had the same experience the last two weeks with painfully slow fishing. I did manage to hook into 8 quality fish in one spot about a week ago but for the most part I've only been getting 2-3 per trip and have been giving up and trying get my first CR walleye. No luck there either though.

Ya... fished the Tualatin a lot. Seems to be mostly a summer fishery. You will catch 'em there in the fall but not like you will in summer. Doesn't really seem to support that explosive fall smallie bite like some of the larger systems. However, the few that you catch there should be of improved quality.

Good Fishin,
Matt
