Default Too early for Mushrooms?

I went outside of Timber yesterday. Picked two Chantrelle's and left the small ones. Found one big Lobster. I'm sure the rain this weekend (hopefully) will bring them out.

Not too early but it is going to be much better in a week or so. I haven't been out this year-but been chomping at the bit to do so. I have friends that have been getting them since July(somewhere with more coastal influence). There should be some bigger boys out there next week.

I picked a gallon ziplock bag full of buttons about 3 weeks ago at the coast. Last weekend there were a few but every one was mouldy.

OK, we have rain!

How many days does it take for a chantrelle to get to a good size?

I've googled it and cant get a good answer.

The are meaty, and its been raining more, so I'm thinking 10 days?

How does one get started looking for these? I'm sure the good spots are a guarded secret, but I've always wanted to try it. Is there a general area I can look to find some? Any websites I can look at to help me out? Just no idea where to start...but I looooove 'shrooms

I do not think so, they are growing all over the place in my yard. I do not think you can eat them though.

The best way is to have someone take you.

Letsfish (above) took me last year, thank you again!

Call them, they have outings sometimes.

yeah haveing a pro with you is the best way.

As far as chanterelles, look for younger 2nd growth (trees up to 2' or so around) with salal and other low bushes for undergrowth.

I was up around eagle fern park yesterday. I didn't hook any fish and there was only one small lonely chanterelle to be found.

Yesterday it was no problem to 1/2 filled a 5 gallon bucket with chanterelles. It looked like the pro pickers had been through there but I still found enough for a good meal or two.
