Re: Nehalem Bay
Hey Cagey,
I do know yesterday was slow at the mouth with only a couple fish taken, I know of a couple chinook taken near Wheeler as well.

Re: Nehalem Bay
Hello - I will be headed down to fish Nehelem next week. I plan to spend as many hours during the week as posible right on the tip of the south jetty, where the incoming tide starts to spill into the bay. I will be twirling a large cut-plug herring 1-2 feet off the bottom, the sun will be shining and I will have a huge smile on my face, as this is perhaps my most favorite place in the whole wide world. I CAN'T WAIT! .....Can we keep fin-clipped silvers??

Re: Nehalem Bay
Well put Cagey, a little slice of heaven with the possibility of a nook bonus! thanks David for the coho info. One more question... Barbless? sometimes I feel like I need to bring my lawyer with me and a guy for each jetty tip to tell me if I'm "in or out"
Thanks for the info & happy fishing.

Re: Nehalem Bay
best to go barbless, barbs inside- barbless outside if that isn't right , keep a knife handy ,nothing going on as of yet but acres of coho outside, have to run up to falcon rock apx.for coho 12 miles one way but exellent bottom fishing up there also

Re: Nehalem Bay
Right, you can use bars inside Nehalem. You have to use barbless out in the ocean. The ocean is open for chinook but closed for coho. This can be a very rough bar and with the water condition report from Astoria the bar should be avoided.

Re: Nehalem Bay
Thanks to all for the info. Ripple iam with you,i could just be there everyday if i could. Even when i fish that place and go home empty handed i have still spent the most wonderful day a man can spend. I think all of us on ifish have a special place in our hearts for "our special place" and when we get to spend time there its like being in heaven. I will be on the river very soon. Cagey.

Re: Nehalem Bay
Dave, i read your post regarding the retention of silvers in the Nehalem Bay. I fish the bay all the time and so i checked the regs and it says that fin clipped silvers can be kept, "Open for adipose fin-clipped coho salmon Aug 16-Oct 31 from an imaginary line from the State Park boat ramp to Fishery point upstream to the confluence of the NorthFork Nehalem River". Am i missing something or misreading the regs. I would love to keep them clear out to the mouth. Jetty tips to me means the end of the jetty at the mouth. Could you please explain this for me as i am now confused as to what i can keep and cannot keep. Thanks, Cagey.

Re: Nehalem Bay
Check out the updated salmon fishing regs tht were printed late spring. It shows the seasons for the ocean, the controle zones of Tillamook, Chetco and Elk River, the Columbia, Nehalem.......
In these regs it tells about being able to keep fin clipped coho out to the jetty tips starting August 1st as well as out to the jetty tips at Tillamook starting September 1st.
