Default Bad HALIBUT, Mess with my daddy's net!

Well here they are!

The pictures of the MASS CARNAGE produced by Team BAD HALIBUT!

Hold them up Boys!

Poppa John cropped Dan!'s head. He wanted him to be able to fit in the rig to drive...

Here they are from small to big....

Mr. Fisherman with his 55# Flattie The "Small" one (That's me folks)

Capin' Dan! and a 56# Flattie...

He makes that fish look small huh...

Here's Drifty with his First Ever! A 57# Flattie! He's ruined fer life. I hear that he walks around the house mumbling something about "If we leave now we can be there by morning..." Man he's got it bad.

And now for a fish of EPIC proportions....
This Big Flat B@stard was caught on a Salmon rod using 30# line. No Shaet...

Hold him up Bait Boy...

This was an unbelievable trip.

The first drift we had four fish on. Who is gonna get these fish in the boat?

Fortunately we lost one and started wakin' and stakin'.

Next drift we released two just short chickens and a nice Coho and it happened...

BFB Slams a plug cut that was being offered to ol' King Nookie!

No nookie for ol' Bait Boy!. Fish on and what a fish.

Capin' Dan! gets it in the boat and it just tail whips the crap out of Rick. I thought he was going over the side of the boat!

I was reaching to throw a rope then reaching to get the whacker then the rope, then the whacker.... I decided on the whacker but Dan! was in the way. I handed it to ol' Dan! and he starts Whacking the crap out of the flattie yellin' "BAD HALIBUT,(WHACK) Mess up my daddy's net (WHACK) Bad Halibut(Whack, Whack, Whack).... He told us after he caught his breath that that net had sentemental value to his pappy and it couldn't be replaced. Seems he stole it of a (CENSORED)! We were all just laughing till the tears were streaming.... Dan! was shakin' and a quakin'. I haven't had that much fun in ages.

It deserves one more pic just to see how it measured up to the ol' Sea Swan, (look how purdy she is in the background ).

If ya look close you can still see the Halibut slime on Rick's nose lips and chin.

Talk about a great trip.

Thanks Capin Dan!, Drifty and Bait Boy. Oh yea and to Papa John.

Let's do it again reel soon.

Mr. Fisherman out....

Pretty unbelievable made even more so by the outstanding company. The crabs taste even better and the beer even colder when you have friends around that are willing to listen to your fish stories for the tenth time in the past hour. What a great bunch of guys. When do we get to do it again.

This is one of the finest fishing trips I have ever been on. I think these are the funniest bunch of guys I have ever fished with. The bonus part was we got fish in the boat.

Way to go You Guy's !!!!
That trip may be a record with that much poundage (the fish) for 4 people. Wish I could have been there. As it was , I went out Sat. morning out of Garibaldi. We got a late start because the Bar didn't open for boats under 30' til 8:00 a.m. We got out there about 11:30. The bite wasn't too hot and not many being caught that we could see. The breakfast at Trollers started getting the best of me with the close together swells. After getting a little rest ,I started fishing again and got a 36" chicken.82 lbs.
JK (I didn't even weigh it) to make a long story short ,
We got 3 fish for 5 people with one large black cod. After heading in we ran out of gas at 12 miles. We did have a 5 gal. can and made it to 7.8 miles out. Come on Coast Guard!! We sat for 1/2 hrs. and finally made dock around 7:00 that evening doing the Parade wave with the Coasty's towing us. What a long day. Glad to see somebody had good one. Take Care guys ,your a good team!!

Hummingbird,

Talking about a late start,

The forecast was for 3 and 6. We weren't sure we were going to make it at all. Then there was our buddy who's boat didn't want to go.

Well to make a long story longer we didn't get out till 10:30 !

We were back by 2:30 with the boat load pictured above

I just can't come down from the rush this trip left me with. Only 11.9 months left till we head out again!

Oh, and by the way.... You say you had breakfast....

I know you had gas

Just kidding, but I'm doin' it from up wind

Later,

Mr. F.

From what my Friend told me is they do it once for goood measure, after that a Crisp Thousand Dollar Bill. One guy did come to rescue us ,but the CG came back and trold us there were 8ft. Breakers at the jaws and nobody but them would be towing us in. They had one of the Distress Alarms to go to first 22 miles out. We heard them get to the Commercial Tuna boat and the Capttain of that boat said he didn't push any alarms. They him hoed around and it sounded like this guy was in deep poo poo. Sounded like he was looking at a definite $1000.00 fine. We thought we also heard them send the Chopper out there. We did see a couple Whales while we were waitng though. Tight Lines Tom

All right,

Since you dragged it out of me...

For three days of fishing we totaled:

12 Salmon
101 crabs
15 rock fish
7.5 gallons of Herring
and 4 Halibut totaling 246#

The three days totaled 7 people fishing and pulling pots.
Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming

That dosen't count all the fish released.

WOW!

Congratulations Guys! Those are some Fantastic Buts! We went out Friday from Garibaldi on the Bull Frog expecting to slay the Flatties. It was too rough for the Frog and the ketchup soaked hashbrowns from the Troller were theatening to make chum. After 7 or 8 miles of wave pounding the cabin's dash began to smoke, our electronics blew and we lost our radio. We headed back to port on a wing and a compass. So, no fish for us, but we're all thankful to return safely.Although we failed to make it out to the halibut reef, we're still eager to try it again next year. Sometimes you just gotta say to your mate that famous line from Jaws, "Need a BIGGER BOAT!" It's great to see someone have a such a successful trip...And thanks for sharing the memories.

No problem Crabby 2,

We got our buts kicked on Friday too.

That's part of the reason we got out so late on Saturday with a forecast of 3 and 6. Man on Friday they only forecasted 3 and 5 and I think they need a new pair of glasses. We got our buts kicked. Did the same sort of 8 mile loop and settled for some bottom fish and crabs. Then on Saturday with 3 and 6 with west winds 20 to 25 knots in the forecast, we were cautious but finally just had to go have a look sea... It was beautiful! The wind sock was all dangley, Thought it was a sucker hole at first but none of the boats that left at 5:30 were headed back so we decided to head out and turn tail if we had to. What a beautiful day on the ocean! It was as good as I've seen it, even better with the fish.

Whats with that forecast anyway ? Ive never seen them so far off base in both directions... Makes a guy wonder.

Don't forget your own common cents out there. There is no substitute for intelegence as hard as Darwin tries

Oh yea, don't forget to fill up the gas tank on the way .
Be safe out there and tight lines.

Can't wait for next year.

Now that's what I call a GREAT fishing trip, a definite story teller for the ages. Congrats to the crew and skipper!

So, I do have a few questions, per usual. What port did you venture from? Looks kinda like Newport and I assume the herring are in the bay? And what about those crabs, 101 crabs is a feast fit for a major party, ok, I'm assuming the ocean for crabs? Just can't help asking questions, I want to play on a day like yours.

Just call me envious,

Gregg

Hummingbird - Did the coast guard, fine you or charge you for the tow in? I have heard they dont tolerate running out of gas as an excuse. I have heard they will charge you the price of the rescue if you call for gas. And I am sure the hourly price for one of them cutters with a half dozen guys on it cannot be cheap.

I always figured if I ran out of gas, I would call for help with a motor problem and then once I knew they were coming I would bust off a spark plug or something so I could prove it was a motor problem

Gregg,

The Salmon came from the Pacific out of Astoria, The Halibut came from Newport, about 20 miles out. The Herring came out of Yaquina (SP) Bay and the crab came from Astoria, Yaquina bay and the Pacific out of Newport.

I'm still as excited as I was last Saturday!

I'm bringing this back to the top to tempt some lucky Ifisher out there to come fishing with me and Capon' Dan! on the Sea Swan Friday. We are leaving Newport at South Bay Marina at 5:30 a.m. headed to the Halibut grounds.

I hope one of you wants to go. All you need to bring is gas money

Email me right away. The first two folks to confirm get to go, it's that simple.

jeeperusa1@netscape.net

Hope to chat with you soon.
