Default Youth Duck Hunt ruined for life

This is a preface for the following story. I have two sons (12, 17) We have been learning and preparing for several months getting ready for hunting season. We are training a 6 month old BLF so this is a new adventure for us.
One of the most pleasing benefits that I found so far is the kindness and generosity of those who have a passion for Duck Hunting. I am sure there are plenty of jerks out there but we have yet to see any.

We participated in the Youth Duck hunt this last Saturday. And really want to thank Brian and Danny specifically. Both Delta Waterfowl members by the way.

Story:

The excitement has been building for over a month and has become fever pitch by first of this last week. We arrived at the boat ramp parking lot Friday evening. Large warm campfire burning and we found the welcome just as warm. After some discussion and some personal duck calling instruction directed to the kids we try to get a few hours of sleep before we head out to the blind.

Between 12:00-1:00 am we load up the boat and head out to the blind, using spotlight and GPS we make our way in the dark out to the blind. As we make our way to the blind we flair many ducks along the way. We unload the boat and stow it away and move all the gear to the blind and prepare for the 5-6 hour wait until shooting time and first light.

Even though we spend a lot of time Salmon/Steelhead fishing this was a new and different experience. We were not prepared for how much fun this was, I had no idea how noisy these ducks are all night long, as we sat in the blind and listened to all the different calls these birds make it was fun to identify the various calls these birds make. Mallards Teel etc.

Waiting for the first Ducks to fly by....

Practice those new skills

That look says it all.

At one point a pair of Mallards flew by and he took a shot and dropped one, It was a pretty tough shot for only the second time shooting his new 20ga.

I could go on and on but I will just say by the time we got home he was ready to go again even after 24 hrs without sleep, He has been blowing the Duck calls constantly for the last 2 days, Mom is about to have a fit.....

GBrian,Danny thanks again.....

Congrats Mike, glad you and your son got out to the marsh.
He's gonna be hooked now, you and the other son are gonna play catchup when the general season starts, your youngest is already a duck hunter and you guys will be the neophytes.
Perhaps you can bribe him into calling for ya on opening day.

Again, congrats or my condolonces to your wallet for joining this addiction.

That's what I love to hear!!!

Get that boy some instructional CD's and send him out to the garage! Hope you're ready for this. It's all downhill from here.

Glad you guys had a good time. Welcome to the Marsh!!

You guys were troopers for how early we had to get going. Logan's shot on his first duck was pretty awesome I'm so glad to hear he's already fired up to go again!!! I had a lot of fun too. You guys should be putting in for the youth hunts on the island--lots of guys around here to give you tips on that! --Brian
