It's time to take a kid fishing....
Friends, Ifishers, Fellow Fishermen,
Lend me your ear.
I was talking to my ol' buddy Capin Dan! about the good ol' days when my mother would take me fishing while she read a book along the banks of the Snake River in Idaho. She was a single parent and I know now what a sacrifice it was for her to take me out and let me fish.
The point is this, Too many kids are in broken homes these days and it is difficult for them to learn the satisfaction of fishing or hunting. For them to get an invitation on a boat or be taught by a quality teacher/mentor.
Being as I have first hand knowledge of this situation I'd like to give something back and thereby make this proposal.
Let's arrange an Ifish take a kid fishing day . We could work with the Boy's Club or some other charity to make dreams come true.
I have experience planning and coordinating common adventure trips.
Maybe we could get Fred Meyer's or some other sporting goods store to help with bait and/or equipment.
I'm thinking about fishing for Coho and/or Chinook in the Longview area. All of us with boats can take a kid or two and set up a big old hog line.
We can arrange the trip around a long outgoing tide, say 10:00 a.m. and maybe even have a pancake breakfast.
Who's first, oh yea... That was me ....
We will need volunteers to put this together and volunteers with boats, maybe even a bank squad .
What do you all say ?
Jen, RT, STEW, Capin Dan!, Pilar, Bait Boy, Drifty, everybody?
This could be great.
We could even take along a bank bound Ifisher to help and really get things going .
What do you all say?

Re: It's time to take a kid fishing....
It's a good idea but you will have to have the parents sign a consent form or you won't be covered by liability insurance in case of an accident. I am hoping that Jennie would know someone who might know about that. Remember they just had the Shad trip in July. Maybe ask her. If you find out it is generally O.K. Than I will be interested in participating in the trip. Good Luck - Tracy

Re: It's time to take a kid fishing....
Mr. Fisherman,
You know my take on this so let me know what you need from me. I have a couple of grills and that two burner stove I could really turn out some cakes. Sea Swan will be ready to do her part. Not to late in Sept. though hunting season and a lot of kids seasons during that time. We should try late Aug or first week of Sept. I do not know where we should ask to find the kids most needy though.
RT do you have a take on this.

Count me in. The one thing I like most is watching kids catch fish, especially if is their first.

Jen,
Any ideas?
How did you coordinate the Shad fishing trip?
Where did ya get the kids from?
I would really like to make this happen. Maybe we could even make it an annual event.
Thanks for your help and for giving us the forum to make it all possible.
Ray

Re: It's time to take a kid fishing....
Mr. Fisherman,
I belong to the Elks Lodge and will ask the guys there on the consent forms and Youth Activities Group on where we can find some Kids to take .This is something I have been thinking about for some time and would be more than Happy to help. I didn't have a Father figure in my youth either. My oldest brother once or twice but that was it.
I don't have a boat but can help with a bank team or on someones boat as a cook or bait person. Let me know what you want me to do. This is going to be a Blast! Tom

I dont believe ifish had much to do with the dreamcasters shad fishing event except for spreading the word about the event. I may be wrong on that, but dreamcasters is a seperate entity from my understanding.
If you want to follow the format dreamcasters did, you may need to contact sailcat as he played a big hand in this event. I know they jumped thru a lot of hurdles, such as becoming a non profit organization etc etc etc....

Re: It's time to take a kid fishing....
Dream Casters is responsible for taking the kids fishing and we just helped spread the word.
I would contact sailcat to do any other kid fishing events, as it is very time consuming and they have most things all ironed out.
Sailcat? Any upcoming fisheries?
Jen
Visit Dreamcasters, and maybe all the ifish people can get together and help them out for a trip!
