Default To those born from 1930 to 1979

Those Born 1930-1979
READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE---VERY WELL STATED

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and
NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.
And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers!, no Internet or chat rooms.......

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls. Had Pea shooters and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them?CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

Violence, deaths from infectious diseases, auto fatalities, sudden infant death syndrome deaths, lung cancer, cervical cancer, accidental deaths of all types, etc. were a multiple of their current levels.

The "good old days" really weren't.

Kinda depends on a person's own experiences? Your remarks made me ponder life today after hearing the World news?:frown:

People got sick and died from disease then as always, but today we have different perhaps more causes of death from our "progressive society"? Meth addiction, drug deaths, road rage shootings, e coli outbreaks, unsafe toys, radiation poison, repspiration disease from pollutants, more auto accidents, terrorist attack, car jackings, poison from burning plastics in fires, ID theft, internet crime, more homelessness, selfishness, greed, rudeness, lack of respect for law and order and others rights. on and
on..........

All in all, life back then appeared to be more fun in many ways, people cared about other people, new their neighbors, ate dinner together, parents controlled the children, schools educated the kids and they were held accountable to learn, scoundrels were ostracized appropriately by society. Kids could spend hours playing in a empty box, or making mud pies, dressing up the dog, having wagon races, selling lemonade or cutting lawns for pocket change, helping around the house as the fair thing to do. I think life was nicer and more meaningful then myself? Not perfect, but we needed less prozac type RX then, people pulled together to support someone who was having trouble coping with things?

Good news, "Thank God", we still have the right to each of us have a different opinion and express it.

Have a nice week anyway you want.

God Bless America!

While reading that it actually brought back some great memories. Especially every day after school the first thing I did was get the bb gun out and walk the creek one side and down the other before chores.

There is still a big tree in Tigard where I lived that is now in the middle of a subdivision. In that tree is parts of my tree fort is still there 80' up 30 years later. I take the kids there sometime to help show them some of my past.

No it isn't.

And thanks for stating what you did, Jack. Not sure how that stuff was missed by the originator of this email spam (I don't mean Rainman).

As a child of the 70's I once ate pop rocks, washed it down with pepsi-cola, ran through the house with scissors while wearing (non-flame retardant) polyester shirt, tan corduroy pants (with blue knee patches). I had no idea I was a walking flame thrower!

...good times, good times.

I don't remember much of the 70's and the 80's are a blur... but I agree with Jay Leno ,faith is important in times of crisis . But should be included in daily life also ... Barney

Media, Fed's, Human rights & regulatory commision, child services division....All these things are just like welfare, they are here to help us. Possibly to save us from ourselfs because we are not smart enough on our own? True for many...

This reminds me of something Chrissy and I talked about recently. Pet fish........As kids we just put fish in the tank and had a cleaning filter and water pump and a razor blade glass cleaner thingy [that I was alowed to use myself as a child] but now days you go to buy fish and you need 4oo$ worth of specialized crud OR YOUR FISH WILL DIE! OMG!...

Did you test your PH today?

Well I grew up in the 50's/60s and I feel that Jay Leno or who ever is right!
They say you can't go home again, but I can in my memories of those wonderful years growing up feeding chickens, milking cows, cutting, raking and bucking hay and then jumping in Catherine Creek at the end of the day with family and neighbors to cool off.
PS: no TV, you just talked to family or read.

Yup...perfect time to take it out. Faith belongs at home, not in public schools. "Under God" was added in the fifties...time to fix that mistake.

DOes anyone remember those toy kits with the goop you used to put on the end of a straw and blow them up........ VERY ssmelly and im sure toxic, those along with lawn darts are what came to mind when reading this thread. Oh, and pop shop pop. I think that we worry to much about what should be politically correct such as the pledge. Ive got much better things to do! You ever been in a place like that?
So, are you saying that you recited the Pledge of Allegiance in Vietnam?

Or are you changing the subject to your express your own personal faith?

No to both. I just think that everyone has the right to believe anything they want. And all I said was I would leave it in.

Ever fought for you county?
I agree with your first statement Bassin, and respect your position. Just as another note. Whether you worship God or a lamp, it shouldn’t matter. Who/What one chooses to worship has absolutely no bearing on what type of person they are. We choose to have a moral base or we choose not to. Sadly, some people thing religion is necessary for that.

One of the founding principles of this country was freedom of religion. Freedom from religion should also be included in that. Further, carrying a gun to “fight” for your country is no different than carrying a pen or voicing your concerns through exercising your rights. There are many heroes who never carried a weapon.

Ya and our moms and dads let us travel around the usa on a 30 day greyhound bus pass with my buddy when we hit the summer of 9th grade. Looking back on it now I gess they musta got a good life policy on me befor I left Ahhh the 70s were fun years to be a teen even if we didnt have confusers, video games and a billion things to watch on tv. Too bad for my kids though I know exactly what not to let them do.
