Default Siltcoos or Tachknitch?

Is there any good fall perch or crappie/bluegill fishing in either lake?
Just wondering, thanks!

September and October should be great for panfish. I used to fish these lakes a lot when I was a kid. Siltcoos always had stunted fish, while Takenitch had bigger fish. The north end of Kiechle (spelling) Arm always had good Bluegill populations and the bank across from Nightingales Resort had Crappie and Bluegill.

We were anchored in 70' of water. Drop your worm to the bottom and reel up 5-10 cranks and let it hit. You never know if you are going to get a trout or a perch. Yes the perch were suspended we were suprized as you all are. We were fishing at the south end of the lake straight out from 101 in 70'. I hope this helps you out.

We just got back from 19 days at Siltcoos, fishing at Siltcoos has been on a downswing (overfished?). We started fishing Woahink instead, before the official news of the alge bloom hit. We had an 80+ day, a 100+, a 60+ day and some 20-30+ days with a day to rest our tendinitus afflicted elbows from jerking perch from 50' down. We were able to use the fish finder to locate fish and sit down on them, if you can't locate the fish with the finder adjusted properly it's a crapshoot and you will get very few perch.

This is a photo of a perch being jerked from the mess of perch from 48.5'-50.7'. The line going strait up mid photo is our line with perch attached. The other red orange blue line going up and comming down is another perch going up for the stomach contents of the caught perch I'm guessing.

This photo shows a perch going from 50.2' up to 40' to grab a piece of discarded bait, old worm. At the bottom of the photo, the two black lines are sinker and bait, bait on the bottom. There are four perch in the photo comming up from the bottom to check things out, many times they seemed very curiuos about our sinkers. The bottom of the photo shows many perch from 48-50'

When there was a mass of perch like this the fish would bite as soon as you got your bait into them, lots of times you'd see perch commong out of the mass, ten feet up to get the bait before it got to the mass at the bottom. Somtimes when there were only two or three perch on the screen you had a hard time getting them to bite, sometimes you couldn't. They were like little sharks, when in mass the would frenzy feed!

The keys; High pixel count finder, 480x480, color would be best. I think if you running 240x240, or less, it may be tough to get a good picture, zooming may help though. Turn finder to maunual mode, if your seeing little fishie shapes on the screen you've got it wrong. Turn sensitivity to maximum. Turn zoom to maximum, mine is 4x on this finder.

Water clarity in Woahink is what made all this possible, when you turn a finder to maximum sens. in cloudy water in may be impossible to get views like these. I never did put the boat back in at Siltcoos to see if I could get results like this there.

Great report!!!!!! I love the screen shots of the sonar. Great advice on turning Fish ID off to show the real raw data.

I always get a big laugh when I see someone that has that turned on. The other thing that kills me is the noisy fish alarm.

How big are the perch running? I am glad you guys had a great time and thanks for sharing.

I don't laugh anymore, I shake my head and sigh. I try to explain something that I've just learned, while I'm cleaning 50 or more perch to their 10-12 perch, and you can tell...when they get "The Look" on their face that you're wasting your breath. I tried to tell a couple of OF's we had been hooking limits under their boat at the mouth of the Sandy this year, so they should move. Nooo, they know how to fish.

The fish weren't as large as I'd heard in the past, and they were all within 2" of each other for the most part. You could not release these fish as their stomachs/swim bladders were in their throats when they came to the top, when released they would suffocate and float to the top. We had fair success poking a small hole in the bladder and releasing some of them. Good thing they were all what I would call fair keeper size, I hate wasting any fish, so we were sharing at least half of our fish with some of the other residents/friends at camp. There's just no way we would/could use that many perch.

I dont know what I was thinking but it was Wohink that we were fishing like everyone else. Im sorry to post the wrong lake guys. I will admit only this time that I was wrong. You were all rite on the lakes I wasnt. We usually pull the boat out of Siltcoos when the fishing sucks and head south to Tak. but this year we went north because the word was out how good Wohink and they were all rite. Sorry again for the wrong info. Next time I will get it rite.
