Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
Ok here it goes fished buoy 10 last thursday with limited success. (one fish three hits) I was out about 14 pulls with a Delta Diver and from what I hear I was to deep. How deep are you guys fishing that are just slamming them. I seem to be into fish every once in awhile but like everyone else I hope to get more.Any info would be greatly appreciated. Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
Well, I haven't been out fishing buoy 10 this year yet, but just speaking from past experience, it depends on what part of the river your fishing and the tides.
If I'm fishing around buoy 10, I'll start at 8 pulls and know others who start at 6. You should also stagger the rod depths until you consistently start getting hits. Like first rod at 8 pulls, second at 12, one at 16 and the last at 20 if your fishing 4 rods. Keep an eye on the rods since you'll often get a hit without a hookup. If your watching several boats around you hookup and your not, start changing depths until you locate some bitters. Also pay close attention to boats catching fish to see what they are doing different. Often it's just a matter of trolling at a differnt depth and/or trolling on a different line, edge of current, water depth etc..., providing everthing else is created equal, most important is properly tuned fresh bait and trolling speed. When you do start hitting some fish at a particual depth, adjust the other rods to the same. When the bite stops or slows down again, start changing depth again. Remember, what worked yesterday or even in the morning won't always work another hour or two later.
I'll give you an example. Last year on the line at buoy 10, we started at 8, 12 and 14 pulls using delta's. Thirty minutes into the tide change we have just one take without a hookup. I'm watching a guide friend consistently hooking up. I know I'm not in the depth so I drop a few rods down. Then I hear this guide on the radio, only 6 pulls. I immediately bring up 2 rods to 6 and within a minute we hookup. We catch 2 quick fish and loose a couple more then nothing. I start dropping down again and hook one more at 10 pulls with to many fins. The bite was over so we trolled towards the bridge. We were half way back towards the bridge and the rod at 16 pulls goes down. We keep trolling towards the bridge and find that 18 to 20 pulls are getting hit.
What started at 6 pulls ended with 20, all on the same incoming tide, just different locations, different water depths and time during the tide change.
Trolling for fish doesn't appear to take any special talent. But don't be fooled, there are subtle differences and the good fisherman are taking notes, trying something different, always thinking and planning for their next move.
Good luck with your next trip,
Gregg

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
When I was out there on the opener, I started out at about 15 pulls and I noticed a boat that was trolling near us that netted 4 fish in about a 30 minute period. I then counted the pulls they were going down. 25 was their magic number. 25 pulls for me and I limited out shortly thereafter.
Pay close attention to what's going on around you and bring your binoculars.

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
I like Gregg's advice (Hookset). ... However, when you find the right depth and start hammering fish a fun trick to play while others are counting your pulls is to hold your spool still with the reel hand when you reach the right number of pulls but keep acting like you are pulling out line with the other hand . Not nice, ay? I usually stop around 40 or 50 fake pulls. I remember a few years ago one boatload counting our pulls and copying, which is normally a proper thing to do when someone finds the right depth nearby, but we all kept pulling out 40, 50, and 60 fake pulls on our 3 rods. They kept doing the same as we continued catching silvers around 12 pulls. Then they got the payback when one of them hooked and landed a big chinook way down deep. ... Glad they did, so I wouldn't feel guilty for that .

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
Had two fish to the boat at 10 and 12 pulls both natives. Two other take downs. That was it on Saturday. Ugly morning and nice afternoon. We had four rods out 8 10 12 20.
Tried 15 later on. Fishing was poor on Sat.

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
We fished buoy 10 on Friday. Three us in the boat. We caught 7 coho, two of which were natives, so ended up with 5 keepers.
We mostly fished about 18 pulls.

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
Ok. Bounty Hunter and I took our maiden voyage to B-10 on Saturday. Got out there about 8:30 and fished for a few hours befor BH hooked into a native. Bummer, our first B-10 fish and had to let it go. I believe BH was at about 15 pulls. Fished for a few more hours. Talked to a boat that just landed a double and they were fishing at 24 pulls. BH let out 25 pulls and I let out 22 pulls. Fish on in 30 min for me, fish on in 1 hour for BH. That was the only action we saw on Saturday. I had to go home that night but Bounty Hunter fished on Sunday. So, I took one keeper home from my first ever B-10 experience. I am a happy guy.

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
I don't mean to be a party pooper, but the fact is, the place to be on thursday was in the ocean. On the She Swan with Capin' Dan, Baitboy, Mr Fisherman and Brian (fogive me I forgot his handle), We had trouble limiting the boat due to all the natives getting in the way. We caught 9 good Coho's and, finally, a legal 'nookie after releasing about 20 native Coho or small 'nookies. I know it sounds like a fish story. But for those of you looking for justice, I was so sick I couldn't boat one of my fish by myself. Worth it to me!
Good huntin' folks

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
Fished Saturday (8/4/01) at B-10. Caught one keeper silver at 18 pulls with black delta diver and silver fish flash flasher at the morning low tide in the church hole. Got 3 unclipped silvers to the boat near Pier 3 later on (1 1/2 hrs before high) at 12 pulls with a chartreuse-green delta and chartreuse-green flasher. Only took the one fish home. Had 4 other take-downs ... munched herring. Had 2 people fishing.

Re: Buoy 10 Fishing How Deep
I suppose it would make a difference as to how pulls with what kind of diver. No one has mentioned what kind of diver they are using. Are you using Deltas or are you using Pink Ladies? We fished Pink Ladies on Saturday at 12, 14,18 and 20 pulls with sucess only at 12 pulls. When you say how many pulls you are out would you please say what kind of diver you are using. Thanks
