Hope you guys caould help me out. Im taking my 11yo nephew on a youth waterfowl hunt and want to make sure he is legal.they took him to get his license and asked them to make him legal for duck hunting. They gave him a youth small game license with HIP migratory bird and Hip upland. Is the the HIP migratory all he needs or does he need the residential waterfowl also??? I know he doesnt need the Fed stamp but I want to make sure he isnt missing anything...I would hate to see him carted away in cuffs on his very first hunt..I would also hate to tell his mom I got her kid arrested and he would appreciate some bail money.
All you need is the free youth license with the HIP until age 14. S/he must be accompianed by an adult and S/he must have a Hunter Education Certificate except if S/he is hunting his/her, parents, or legal gaurdians property. See page 8 of ODFW bird regulations for normal youth hunting and page 22 for youth special hunts. slight differences between the two. i had to do the research to take a 13 year old on his first Goose hunt during the early Sept goose hunt so you should be good to go. Good luck!!!!!!
Don't worry about them cuffing him and hauling him off, it would be you!
All he will need is a ride home.
I think it is great you are taking him and taking the extra time to make sure it is all covered before hand.
Are you going to SI this weekend for the kids? I'll be out there with my daughter and a few friends and their kids...Good luck on the draw and happy hunting..
