ROTFLMAO! That is hillarious...AND TRUE! But, then again you'd be amazed how fast I can run when I'm defecating in my pants!

Re: Cougar Sighting
Its actually illegal in Washington to carry a sidearm while bow hunting. However, trust me, it has crossed my mind on more than one occasion, especially since i hunt westside elk by myself.

That should change soon. Maybe only we in Oregon have second amendment rights?

Maybe the rule hasn't been challenged there yet, but no state can make make rules or laws that contradict an individual's right to keep and bear arms for self protection. I would ask the WDFW where they get the authority to impose such a rule and see what happens. The challenge has to start somewhere....

Re: Cougar Sighting
I find it kinda funny how the guy with the pistol was the first to run...unless it was just a 22 or something. I probably would have tried to shoot at it...either with my bow or sidearm. The cougars are not doing us any favors by eating our game animals so I feel it is my duty to give it my all in trying to take them out if I get a chance.

Re: Cougar Sighting
Good story and outcome.
I agree running is not to smart. It really might not matter who is faster if one person is bigger and doesn't run. My hope is for the cougar to go after the smaller running guy.

True. Applies to any firearms restricted hunting area, black powder, shotgun only, etc. Bogus, especially given this situation.

BTW Nunez, did you say "Here kitty kitty" while you were running away?

Re: Cougar Sighting
Scarey situation for sure. Not to steal your thread but here is a story to go along your post. Second weekend of the season, My brother climbed up on the top of the mountain, covered in sweat he decided to lay next to a tree to cool off. After 15 minutes he sat up to put his back back on and there 15 yards in front of him was a cougar staring him down, He jumped up and yelled for him to "Get the @@#$ out of here" as he pulled his bow back. The cougar just stared at him so he shot it in the chest!! The cougar jumped straight up at about 10 feet and took off. My brother immediately climbed back down the mountain went to camp changed his drawers and grabbed every pistol we had. Not wanting to go back up there he waited until he made contact with us via radio. We climbed up there with him and found the arrow which was covered in blood but only about 8" of it. We tracked for about two hours and couldn't find anymore blood. After his story we always try to remember to look behind us as we are watching draws.

Re: Cougar Sighting
Just saw one run in front of my truck on the way home on the nestucca river hwy just before bear creek bridge. Even in a truck they look impressive. It's the first one I have seen up close or in the wild. I even stoped to inform the elk camp on the other side of the bridge that they have a neighbor.

One of my buddies had the same thing happen one night. All 5 people in the car claimed that it looked them right in the eyes as it ran by!!! I still haven't seen one alive, but am hoping that its under the right circumstances when I do!!
