Default Re: How long does herring keep?

When Capin' Dan! was still fishing the "Ugly Duckling" He kept herring in his baitbox fer at least a month I wouldn.t recomend it though.

If ya want to keep them fish longer and still use them as bait for fish rather than maggots try vac-packing them. They should last 6 months to a year, but fresh bait is always better.

Good luck, and remember. Old bait is good crab bait .

Later,

Mr. F.

Default How long does herring keep?

I found a good deal on green label frozen herring, I already bought 12, but was considering getting some for next year too, how long will this stuff keep before turning yellow?

Hey Ray, Thursday's trip I'm breaking out the good stuff. It has been ferminting in the bait box since the 1st of July. It should be just about ripe right now.
On another note I finally found the big stuff. This herring is 12 to 14" I'm thinkin. A little spendy but I've been looking for it everywhere. Let me know if you are Pilar wants any. I'm posting the location tomorrow so I'm sure it will not last long.
