Troll a silver ford fender sssllllooowwwww, just fast enough to get the blade to turn. ½ oz of weight, 1 ¼ inch length of worm tipped the hook with white corn. Use to fish that lake with an old timer first weekend in August every year. Always got our limit but I’ll admit it been a while since I’ve been up there. Good luck.

Artwo,
We were there the weekend after the 4TH and we did pretty good using a worm with a chunk of marshmellow at the point in front of yurt #10 at paul dennis campground, scored a couple 5 pounders.EASY pickens with those green powerbait eggs to get a limit of pan friers

Artwo - I am not positive, but believe no motors are allowed on Olallie lake. Just in case you were not aware of it. Somebody else may be able to confirm this.

Re: Olallie lake report/tips needed........thanks
I think BOE is right about the motors. I camped at Olalie last year but only fished for about an hour and never touched a fish. I talked to about 20 different people while hiking around the lake and the only person who cought a fish was in a boat and trolling a small black nymph pattern just underneath the surface. They weren't using a fly rod, just a spinning rod with one of those clear plastic torpedo shaped floats. Hope this helps. Let us know how you did. This lake intrigues me - there were lots of pictures of monster trout posted in the store but I couldn't catch one!

Olallie lake report/tips needed........thanks
I plan on fishing Olallie lake on Saturday with my nephew from Texas. I have never fished there before so, first I was looking for a report if anyones been there recently and second I could use tips on techniques to use there.
Thanks in advance,
JK

No motors are allowed. Fishing from a boat is best and you can rent them from the store. Brood stock are planted in there from time to time so there are some big fish.
Just as a side note, the campgrounds used to be decent when the forest service was maintaining them. Now one of those really good contract consessionares (sp) runs the place . Now there are yurts, it costs almost $20 a night, and the garbage can are overflowing. That was the way it was a few years back right after the consessionare took over. Havent been back since. This bugs me as you can tell since I spent one weekend a year up there for 17 years to help build and maintain those campgrounds as a volunteer. Check out the brass plaque at Dennis campground.

Waterdog, is you name cast in the brass plaque, or grafitti painted over the others names?
I am not doubting it is there, just wondering in what form.

My name is nowhere on it, it talks about Paul Dennis and the organization that donated thousands of hours to the campgrounds in the Mt. Hood Nat’l Forest. Of course a kid with a pocket knife can do wonders to tables and trees....

Ollalie Lake has it's own web page, found it during a Search...you can reserve yurts, cabins, boats, learn facts about the area, they have a big fish contest...15# took it last year. The lake is the drinking water supply for Detriot and the lower Santiams. they do not allow any motors gas or electric on the lake, just good old armstrong power, this time of year 3 flies come to mind, Spruce fly, black knat BT, yellow / orange tied down caddis... but would not rule out a weighted #8 woolybugger. hanging off a dry line and 20' 2# test leader early a.m. late p.m. bright days puts them off until dawn or dust. also avoid full moon they feed all night and go deep during the day...Steve

Re: Olallie lake report/tips needed........thanks
Thanks all,
I got some other reports and it appears that the fishing has been slow. So, since I've never fished there before and the fishin's slow we are going to go to Trillium instead. I know I can caught fish there so my nephew from Texas will have some definate fun. Also, Check out the Olallie web page and look at the price for the cabins and yurts, you could stay at a Shilo for what they want per night. Suprising for a rustic cabins. I also found out that the resort is for sale if anyone is interested.
Thanks for the feedback,
JK

Re: Olallie lake report/tips needed........thanks
My neighbor has been twice in the last three weekends. He has been "trolling" different kinds of the smallest FST's and other similar devices, with his single person pontoon boat on the oars. He has been killing trout in the 8 to 12 pound range, no BS, I have one in my freezer he gave me.
Don't they rent row boats up there, for someone without a driftboat or rowboat? He has been trolling the shore around the lake, no weight, out behind the boat, just under the surface.

One friend just got back from Ollalie and was generally pretty negative about the place, although it was a non fishing family deal. Another friend just got back from Odell and had a quality time with the Kokanee. It wasn't red hot but he and the two kids picked up 5-9 each AM.
