Where would be a good place to go squirrel hunting?

Minnesota has a good population of them. Then once archery season in Oregon is over the cascades have a few.

I think that's the first squirrel hunting question I've seen in my 2 1/2 years on iFish. Sorry I don't have any good info for your area. I see lots of squirrels down by Roseburg.

There are Silver Gray squirrels in southwestern Oregon, Curry county has a fairly large population.

Yea, you must be from down south like a few of us.
I have relatives who've hunted them on the filbert orchards in the area years ago. I've never seen one when walking the westside or eastside forest, the only squirrel I see there are little pine squirrels.

My dad had a rule around our house, you shoot it, you eat it.
We were spending the summer ( Monday-Friday) camping at Huntley Park on the lower Rogue River.
I think I might have been 11 or 12, anyways I took my trusty 22 rifle and set off on a hunt.
Well long story short, I bagged a Silver Gray, man was I proud of that deal.
I gutted and skinned the critter, so my mom could BBQ it for dinner.
It was like eating a rubberized pin cushion.
Found out latter on, from some friends, you have to pressure cook them, in order to tenderize.
I never shot another Silver Gray squirrel.
Grouse became my new quarry, and they were very BBQ friendly.

I grew up hunting Bushytailed Tree Grey's down By the Rogue Valley.

Was a good place to hunt Grey's .. Down near the Rogue river and out to Brownsville ets. Used to really enjoy it, would have been a blast with a beagle or a terrier, or a bona fide hound.

Yes I did get your PM. We went up there yesterday, but not one squirrel was seen. We spent all day driving to different areas with no luck. We started out between Rock Creek and Bonney crossing and continued to work every spur up to road 2710. There was very little wildlife out at all. But it was not a wasted day, after hiking up to a peak of 5000ft the view of the Tygh valley and beyond made the day worthwhile. Thanks again, Jay

Bummer no critters were found. That scrub oak area is up on top. I missed a big grey up there some time back.

I've only eaten one. 'Wife's cousin shot it during an elk hunt. We fried it and it was just fine. Don

I like to go out of Tyh and past the fair grounds, get up on top in the scrub oak and hunt south of the road, the trick is seeing them before they see you which can be hard to do if ya get far enough off the road you should see some.

Durring Silver Grey Squirrel season one year we ran into abunch of asains and they were shooting anything that looked like a squirrel. Grey Diggers and all.
In fact grey digger hunting there hasn't been the same since.

I think that I ran into the same bunch gutting some out over by Pine Hallow a couple of years ago... drainage ditch and they were setting up a BBQ
