Default Herring rigs

I found this website for trolling bait and many different rigs. With the opener tomorrow and a lot of newbies like me maybe this will help our chances. See you down there, Fish On!!!

For someone that is trying to learn on there own and not ask to many questions this site is awsome. I printed out a bunch on of pages off this site for myself and other people that are learning the tricks of salmon.

Like Jim said, tie the lower hook first with an egg loop knot. If you like solid tied two hook setups, just slide the second hook down, leave enough space to accomodate the bait size and tie using a second egg loop knot. For sliders, I use a separate piece of 20lb colored dacron on the second hook tied with an egg loop knot.

I like tying my own for several reasons. Better quality hook, correct hook size I prefer and changing leader to match fish and conditions.

For salmon, I like heavy leaders, often 40 pound leaders and large hooks. I match the hook to the bait size and often use 6/0, sometimes 5/0 and never smaller then 4/0 on small baits. This year I'm going to try some circle hooks after reading some good reviews here. You just can't buy a circle hook mooching rig, have to tie your own.

best of luck,

Gregg

Someone told me last year that alot of times chinook will attack a herring's head instead of its tail. I usually rigged my herring with a double slider, but I noticed a couple of times after that I missed fish and the herring's head was chewed. After that I started rigging a double solid hook, but I didn't noticed much difference. Anybody heard of this claim?

ps. I don't think the salmon know where the liquor or the poker is.

Good site Rags. I do have one question that I was hoping someone could answer or send me in the right direction on the internet. I was buying serveral packages of the two hook leaders pretied by eagleclaw and was wondering if someone could tell me or send me to site to show me how so I can tie my own with sharper hooks and use better line!??

Thank you again to anyone who responds.

Yes, I know how to tie egg loop knots but have never tried doing two on one line, and am not sure why I never did? Rube I guess!
Thanks again!

So?? Did you tie some mooching rigs?

Pretty easy once you know the egg loop knot.
