IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Would you be interested in a golf tourney ?
I have read at various threads about folks that golf. I know this is a fishing db but why not have an event like this to bring people together in a neutral setting. The event could be as simple as just getting together for a good time or as elaborate as a fund raiser for a good fishing cause !
I realize this might not be the best time of year to bring this up but there is always next year.
Let's hear some thoughts !!

I've lost more good fishing buddies to golf ... Isn't there a 12 step program for that?

Great idea! Count me in. I think the fund raiser for a good fishing cause would work great. Maybe my son could help us out. He is a golf pro and knows how to organize tournaments. Let me know.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
i haven't touched my clubs since last year so a scramble sounds like the ticket. as long as it's a fund raiser, count me in. otherwise, i'd rather be out fishing.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
I'd up for some of that! How about a long drive contest with a 6 iron? Shotgun start? Real shotgun though, no cap guns. A scramble with no one person being able to take two consecutive shots seems like a good idea(weeds out a good player from carrying the whole team). Need to plan it way in advance though, I for one have plans for every weekend through mid September and keep adding on to the end.
FOOOOOORRRR(SLAP)muff, grrrr.... Hey man shut up, we don't care about those guys, they're not on our team. Ouch....that looked like it might have hurt.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
The golfing part sounds fun, not sure about any contibutions to anything cept balls to water hazards though. Where do you plan to get tee times? Can I use my 48 stroke handicap Portland coarses are the cheapest. I'm another of those people that haven't touched a club in at least a year.

  Great Response !
This proposal is getting to the point where I think a committee should be formed to organize the event. I am willing to put time and energy in and would like to have some others step up too !
This could become an annual event to support an agreed upon unaminous entity. I think next year would be a good time to have it so there is plenty of time for planning to ensure this would be a great event ! Let's keep this thread going to fire up the creative fish blood on this DB !
Hey jet, friends take friends fishing !

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Fishin- actually I do golf, but only when I can not fish. This weekend is booked, we are going to skip the zoo at bouy 10 and go out of Garabaldi and hit the ocean and get the crabs and maybe a ? or two.
This golf thing really sounds like it might spool out into something fun.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
why dont we all contact our local clubs and see what kind of a price they would be willing to give depending on the number of persons who would golf. The local Bayou golf club is a public course that is really nice and the people who run it bend over backwards to work with you. They also have a nice big area to down a few afterwords and even cater food etc if its wanted. Just an idea.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Cagey, Ideas are good and I think that is where this is at
There are so many places to go that I think a poll should be taken as to where and when !
I believe in order to make this a memorable event and a productive one that it should be held next year sometime. This would allow enough time to approach companies for donations and prizes, identify where to hold it, food, time, promotions and many other details that need explored.
Keep the ideas flowing
Good luck this weekend jet~~~ let me know how you do

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
ok fishin mission let me be the first to suggest a place.
Bayou golf course.
9 holes
on the river
really a nice place
weekends are 12 bucks for 9 holes
beer wagon would run
owners/operators very nice people
easy to find
room for plenty of ifishers after golf
they can accomodate large crowds
beleave they will discount to large groups
water on course so we will feel at home
ok, LETS HEAR IT FROM THE REST OF YOU.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Jennie, I have played several rounds of golf where I would catch and release. The major difference is catching a fish and getting a birdie is that you cannot eat the birdie, No one can see it, all you can do is talk about it. Most don't believe you cause the birdie is left behind. Rags and golf pro can hit the ball and set the hook with the best of them. Bet Matt could set this up at Tualatin Country club.... Count me in

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Im There!!!!!!!!! I can help with a course also. I know the owners of Mckay Creek Golf Course fairly well, and they host a lot of tournaments there. It is also very reasonably priced. If you need help to coordinate this I am glad to help. I have helped put on several tournaments. This is a great idea. Depending on the number of people that commit to going, I recommend a 3 or 4 person scramble. Scott , that would be really cool to film this event. I would possibly be willing to donate some golfing apparel and other stuff ( Towels, visors ,hats etc....)I would need commitments though...NO NO-SHOWS!!!!!!

I'm rusty and the clubs are dusty , but I'll be there. Haven't played any golf in 3 years and sounds like a great way to meet some fellow IFishers.
If we're going to get together for a round, how about 18 holes, I like a full course menu. The scramble idea sounds like fun, nice to see a different part of the course other then fore right!

Hey Guys,
If we can turn this into a Worthy Cause, such as donations going to Tillamook Anglers, etc., (versus a Drink-a-Thon, which isn't all THAT bad ) I will Video Tape the whole thing. Wouldn't it be GREAT to see the iFish Hack Squad in action?

Consider this.......Jen is continually upgrading the site, and is probably not making anything on it. We get a tremendous amount out of Ifish, and this could be a good way to return something to keep the site alive for awhile longer. Thoughts?

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Hey there FM2 that sounds like a great idea. I think a best ball scramble is the best way to go. That way you can match up the good with the bad and there will be a lot of bad. We (elk hunting buddies) have a scramble every year and its a blast. Big BBQ and Beer fest afterwards. Our local golf club (Bayou) are really good about helping put things like this together. Not expensive either. There are Two RV places real close and several motels. Thats just if it was around here. I go for the non profit event. Keep going on this as it would be sucessful without a doubt. I agree with helping Jen out. Maybe something in addition could be done.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Several courses exist in the greater Portland area that could accomodate a combined "cast & whack" event. Lewis River Golf Course and Sah-Ha-Lee (on the Clackamas) would both do just fine. A half day of fishing, then a golf event in the afternoon. With Jen running around in a golf cart serving chocolate cake. Relax-til-you-drop.

My Dad has been president for Arrowhead Golf Course, and still is a member.
He knows the people well. I will check to see how these things get off the ground.
In the back of my mind, I have always wanted to do a benefit for Marfan Syndrome, but this may not be the right one. I dunno.
I'll check into things if you want.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
There are many great ideas surfacing which maybe warrants an informal survey !
1. Would you like to have the tournament near a body of water that would allow golfing and fishing in the same day ?
2. What format would you prefer, scramble or best ball ?
3. Would your decision to play be determined as having this event as a fund raiser for a pre-determined entity ?
4. What would be the best time of year for you to participate in this event.
I believe this could be the beginning of an annual event with a positive cause. Let's hear your input !

I'll take a 16 handicap, and a 48 hour hangover and still whoop y'all.
Does this mean that I have to uncover the clubs out from under the cataraft, in the bed of the truck now?
There's a ton of good, inexpensive places up here to hold a tournament if anyone is interested. Either way, count me in, and I'll bring the shotgun for the start....and GROUNDHOGS. Oh it's just me, your cute, cuddley, friend Mr. Squirrel.

The Lewis River Golf Course is beautiful and has a boat put-in next to the clubhouse. We could golf and fish the same day. Silvers will be in there in September and great time to golf.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
An Ifish Golf Tournament would be great, and a lot of fun regardless of where and rules. And the nice idea of earmarking some proceeds to a worthy cause is cool. Count me in for sure. ...
Of all the man made things on earth, golf courses are one of the most beautiful and enjoyable places to be; especially if you can finally defeat the typical over-expectation syndrome we all have on the course, allowing us to enjoy the fun more. ...
Scramble or best ball are good ways to go. I figure most of you guys are like me in that we don't know which of our bodies or games will show up on any given day. More often than not my stiffer body shows up and I spray tee shots until I finally loosen up ... about the last 3 holes though . When my loose body and swing show up I do pretty well sometimes. Fortunately this happened for the OGA Parent/Junior best ball tournament at Sah-hah-lee recently and my son and I won the thing. Amazing to me, but like they say 'every dog has their day' (we both showed up swinging well for a change). I've had my day now, so don't pick me on your team if you want to win. You guys with the time to organize, I will try to help out some when I get the time - let me know.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Hey, count me in, but lets do it soon if we do it this year caus the kings are comming.. I like the idea of a charatible donation, but I think that some of the proceeds going to help cover the cost of running this board makes alot of sense.......Scramble is probable best for the non-serious golfers like myself.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Count me in if the date works for me. Just make sure that all the water hazards on the course have fish in them. I like to keep my ultra lite in my golf bag.

Re: IFISH GOLF TOURNEY
Will Jen be checking for ID while casting for 8lb bass in the water hazard !! I think she could drive one of those hydrofoil golf carts and when she catches one of those 8lb bass she could race over to the golfer who thinks a birdie is that 2 legged creature in the tree and whack him. This could be a "BEER" infraction and after 3 infractions all "BEER" privaleges would be reduced to slugging down bottles BUCKHORN beer....!!!
I say we all put ifish decals on our golf bags so there is no-doubt who is playing, what do you think J ! Has sushi ever been made from golf course bass ..huuummmm..well maybe !!!
Great ideas, Great feedback, let's make this happen
