Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
Apple has already lowered the price 200$, and not rebates offered. That isn't very good customer treatment IMO. I would be sending Steve Jobs a a personal note for poor treatment of new technology adopters.

Do you not remember the parable of the workers in the vineyard? Same thing....
Matt 20:1-16 "For the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who was the master of a household, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. He went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace. To them he said, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. About the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle. He said to them, ‘Why do you stand here all day idle?’ "They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ "He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and you will receive whatever is right.’ When evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.’ "When those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came, they each received a denarius. When the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise each received a denarius. When they received it, they murmured against the master of the household, saying, ‘These last have spent one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat!’ "But he answered one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Didn’t you agree with me for a denarius? Take that which is yours, and go your way. It is my desire to give to this last just as much as to you. Isn’t it lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?’ So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen."

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
Everybody that went out and bought one should've have known it was coming. New technology comes along and it's always expensive at first, and then it drops. Look at flat screen monitors, first they were $500.00, for a 15", and now you can get 17" for $150.00. It's how business works.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
If you bought one on a credit card I believe some will refund the difference if the purchase was recent enough. Also apple is giving all the early adopters a $100 credit at the apple store. Its something at least.
I still love mine.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
For those of you who were early adopters, Apple has a $100 Apple Store credit for you.
The combination of that, along with the fact that there weren't any reports of people with a gun to their head when they bought the thing, should settle the issue.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
Well, first you get the hype and people so excited they camp out to get one... even though they could have got one on line or walked in and picked one up later in the day. So the company makes a mega profit by charging folks 500 bucks for a toy that costs them maybe 150 bucks to make. So charging 300 bucks they are still getting a healthy mark up and can give out $100 store credit(note it is not $100 cash). So this way they took folks that bit first and keep them biting with the store credit.
And people complain about MSFT ripping people off.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
I think some of you miss the history behind Apple. Apple has been historically slow to drop prices on their new products. So while a $200 drop is not unusual for a $600 item (all of the high tech products drop in price eventually, even iPods), it was very unlike Apple to drop the price so quickly.
Gus, thanks for the post because Dave's post pointed out my $100 credit will soon be available. I will buy another iPhone with it.
iPhones aren't for everyone but as an avid iPod user and being unable to email at work, I will make good use of the iPhone.

Again, nobody forced them to buy the iphone early. With any sort of technology, there is a premium to be paid for those who want the bleeding edge technology. Video cards are another example, where some folks "need" the best of the best so that their video games get 200 frames per second instead of just 150.
The estimates to build the iphone are around USD200-225, so there is more than a 100% markup. That's not at all unusual, really, and after selling a million of those at that price they were likely able to recoup their development costs. As is often times the case, once development costs are recouped the price goes down.
The iphone is NOT a necessity. It's a toy. To complain that you (the iphone buyer) paid too much for it isn't a worthy complaint, because in the end you came to the conclusion that being an early-adopter was worth the $600 price tag when you bought it.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
they will charge whatever the most idiots will pay. There was no shortage of lines to shell out $600 for what will probably turn out to be a flawed 1st generation product. Next year I will get one of the 2nd or 3rd generation ones for under $250. I can almost guarantee it.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
This big ah ha with this is Apple's unprecedented price reduction. At 10 weeks they are cutting prices and key technology adopters that have always been loyal to apple are very upset.
On top of that.. rebates have limits to exercise them and the $ are not fungible across Apple stores.
Apple's goal is to ship 1 million units by end of september, and that is all that matters to them at this point.
Apple's iPhone credit carries a few strings Like: You can't use the $100 credit at Apple's iTunes Store. That was one of the surprises today, when Apple unveiled terms of the offer to unhappy early iPhone buyers. They were the customers shocked by Apple's decision last week to shave $200 off the $599 price of the 8-gigabyte model of the cellphone.
Get out your magnifying glasses, early adopters, because the fine print in the credit deal is really, well, fine. But whatever you do, don't wait forever: You've got to request the credit by Nov. 30. Meanwhile, a few folks are already grumbling about the strings-attached deal over at the Good Morning Silicon Valley and Digital Daily blogs.

Does Verizon have something like this on the radar?
Friends and family require me not to change carriers.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
right now Apple is in contract with Cingular, but the exclusivity will probably go away in due time. The big issue that is really go to hurt Apple and Cingular's profits is that the phone has been unlocked. Apple was relying on 2 year contracts to make thier profit - with the phone now being hacked.. you can buy one and sign up with whoever you like and Apple & Cingular get no bucks, analysis says they actually lose money because of this.
In the US that is pretty much the business model.. get the phone for essentially free,, iphone is the acception right now, and they earn their money via contracted use. in China and the rest of the unfree world.. you buy your phone out right, unlocked, and you then buy/pay for you SIM with whoever you want to go with.

Re: Iphone users how do you feel about this!?
AT&T was the only one making money on the contracts. Apple already made their money in selling the phone, so trust me when I say that the unlocking programs that are coming out aren't hurting them at all. They'll try to make it so that the iphones can't be unlocked, but that'll only be until someone else figures out a new way to do it.
Only AT&T will be hurt on this one, and I feel like it was their own stupidity for entering into the contract with Apple.

I have one, and I love it.
Nope, not a status thing. Just a neat toy that a single guy with a career can afford. sooooooo, why not!?
Did I care when they lowered the price? Nope. Thats life.

I don't think of it as a toy at all. It's so exciting to me, that it feels fun like a toy and a relief like a good biz product.
FINALLY I can see the screen and the numbers to dial!
Finally, I can work on ifish on the go, without lugging around a laptop that hovers around my weight limitations.
Finally I can see web pages I create, display in the correct manner!
It has music on it, and that's fun and a toy, I suppose. However, if I were still doubling as a musician, I'd be using it for learning my accompanying parts, and creating music with it. I used to haul around a tape recorder to listen. That was a bulky project!
It's fun to finally be able to do what others do on their business phones, so in that manner it does feel exciting like a new toy, but for me, it is not a toy!

It is widely understood that Apple is getting subscription fees from the deal, so it is impacting them. Looks now they are going to go to europe next...
