What # test on my plug rods??
I've decided to run Power Pro on my new plugs rods when I FINALLY get my new Willie in 4 weeks (it has been ordered). What pound test should I run. I was thinking either the 50 or 65. What do you think? i was also going with the high vis yellow so I could see my line better. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer 30# Tuff XP in the HiVis yellow. I believe that Power Pro has Hi Vis also.

Re: What # test on my plug rods??
I have been running tuff line, but the darn stuff likes to wrap itself to the rod tip. Sitting in the back watching the front man try to get plugs out is killing me, the line wraps and rewraps, and doesn't want to let go. It takes the guy(s) a few times and then the first plug is out. These aren't newbies either. It is killing me to see the valuable fishing time go by without plugs working, so I am going with some hi vis mono, and a ultra green bumper. Then see how it works for me, and the front seaters, and my frustration!
Also, from a previous post about getting a plug to work true, I think the mono stretch will give the plug a little better action than the braided lines.

Re: What # test on my plug rods??
I run 65# Tuff XP Hi Vis on my Amb 6500, and 50# on my 5500 due to reel size. I igure I should run larger line for my main line, and lesser for my mooching rigs (usually 40#) therefore I shouldn't loose the expesive stuff. (divers, flashers, etc)
Go Big or go Home.

I use 50# Power Pro with a 20 or 25# Big Game leader for pulling plugs for steelies.

Re: What # test on my plug rods??
50 lb tuff line xp high vis yellow. it is a much better line. higher abrassion resistance, knot strenght is higher and it is less expensive. Also works great in 30lb test for bobber and jig fishing.

I go 12# Maxima green for Coho & Steelhead. 20# Maxima green for Chinook. NEVER lost one to line breakage.

Re: What # test on my plug rods??
50# braided of some sort (Power Pro) OR 20 lb. Maxima (way strong for mono)! I like to keep several reels spooled up with different lines for different scenarios.

Re: What # test on my plug rods??
50# Power Pro.....
I get grief from friends who think they're playin' the fish on a more even playin' field with lighter line. Horse Hockey.....
I set the reels to get the fish to the boat asap while lettin' 'em run, to see if it's a keeper, without wearin' the fish out!
And then either land it, or release it while in the water....
Just MHO.....

Re: What # test on my plug rods??
I also agree with getting fish to the boat. We have a valuable resource out there. There are times when those precious nate's need to be handled quickly and released. When you guys (gals) use a mono leader, do you use a barrel swivel or a surgeons loop or blood knot. Still not sure how I'll start out. Want to go forward on my best foot though. Thanks for any input.

Re: What # test on my plug rods??
Can someone tell me how to splice hi-vis braided line to mono leader? Is it as simple as a barrel swivel? Does the swivel change the action of the plug? Maybe I'm thinking too hard........
