Where Can I purchase fressh fish on the Oregon Coast?
Your probably wondering why I cant just catch it? Well, I just had a heart event and am SUDDENLY interested in getting some Albacore or white fish for low fat cooking. I hear Omega3 oil is OK. I just heard on the tele that the Albacore is in in Garabaldi. Does anyone have any suggestions. Astoria? I used to hear these rumors, but now IM REALLY INTERESTED! (go figure that!) Thanks again to this great group!

Re: Where Can I purchase fressh fish on the Oregon Coast?
Last Saturday I went to Newport. I took the daughter and went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and then went the Pelican Boat and picked up my order. I had ordered Albacore Tuna and Halibut, MMMMmmmmm So good!! The other suggestions sound closer and hoping to find a closer one, but I do make it at least a 2 activity trip going all the down there. Even if it is to play on the Beach if weather permits. This time it didn't. Tuna is going for $1.75 Lb. Halibut, don't know if there is any more to be got at $3.50lb. Very good Quality and Nice people to deal with. There is Cheaper but beaware of the quality. Here is the Pelican's Website: www.albacoretuna.net

My sister always laughs and says she buys fresh fish in Portland and takes it with her to the coast.
That's pretty sad!

Re: Where Can I purchase fressh fish on the Oregon Coast?
A few years ago the commercial fall halibut "season" in SE Alaska was one 24 hour period. Now of course it is based on a poundage allotment that can be caught any time, but back then all the halibut boats went out at once. Typically that was about the 10th of September. We would be sportsfishing in Yakutat and always watched the halibut boats go out, regardless of weather. Some didn't return each year, which is why they went to an allotment system. Anyhow, we would get home 5 or 6 days later and the papers would announce that the following Sunday (making it a total of 10-13 days since the boats went out) Freddies would have "fresh" Alaskan halibut! I found out then that "fresh" meant unfrozen, and had nothing to do with freshness. As far as I can tell, the average consumer buys his/her fish from the market up to two weeks after it has been caught. No wonder all the scales are falling off and the eyes are clouded over. I have never bought "fresh" fish from a market since. Yuck!

Re: Where Can I purchase fressh fish on the Oregon Coast?
I was over to Garibaldi last Friday and went to the Crab place just north of the Boat launch. They had Fresh (on ice) Bottom fish $1.99 lb. They had lingcod in with them at the same price. They also had albacore for $1.50 lb. They were also FRESH. The Halibut was going for $3.95 lb. I hate it when I don't have enough cash with me to buy some as fresh as this was. My freezer is full anyway.

Re: Where Can I purchase fressh fish on the Oregon Coast?
You might want to try Pacific Seafood on Powell Blvd in Portland. I think they are around 27th Ave.
They get fresh fish from the Oregon Coast nearly everyday. I have heard from others who work at local restaurants that they supply to the local food service companies in town.
I have been impressed with the quality and selection they have.
So you know, I grew up on fresh caught commercial salmon and bottomfish from my families boat in Garibaldi. Unfortunately, we don't have the boat anymore, so I buy fish.
