Default Estuary Weekend Results

Fished out of the John Day boat ramp on Saturday and today on a last ditch effort to strike some fear in a few sturgies before they drop the curtain on us. On Saturday the water was rough and the sculpins were on a rampage. We fished for 8 hours with only a shaker to keep us entertained. I finally anchored up in some deeper water just outside of Tongue point to give it one last try. Just as we were going to call it a day, we sparked a bite on smelt that produced a keeper and 6 shorties.
Today the water was really calm but the fishing started off much like it did the day before. The last part of the flood kicked out 2 big keepers and a couple of shorties but that was the best we were going to get for the day. Pretty slow all in all but when all was said and done, we put three more in the freezer.
Todd, did you guys end up with some fish? I tried to find you guys but I forgot what boat you said you were in. I thought it was a grey North River but I wasn't sure.

Hey Chris!
We had similar fishing as you described, real slow. I only managed one keeper to my boat, but my buddies in their boat got two each day. I planted them in a spot where I had caught fish earlier then I tried a bunch of looking around. They stayed put and let the fish come to them.

I think you drove right by us, did a big s-turn and went on further east. Teal blue renegade with grey top? I'm in a dark green N. River-grey top. You didn't miss much in my neighborhood.

Oh well, maybe next year!
