Mandatory hunt reporting......
Just finished my hunt reporting online for Nevada Dept. of Wildlife. It was so easy, logged in using some information off my tags/licenses, entered my harvest data, and clicked OK, simple as that.
Absolutely no reason that can't be done here in Oregon. We're all in a master database. Just report the days hunted, the harvest(or lack of), and unit you harvested it in. IMHO, the more real information the bio's get, the better job they can do. Add in some penalty for not reporting, and we've got a good system like other states.
Agree/disagree???

They are doing it in Oregon. the system is not up yet but you have to do it before next year applications.

Re: Mandatory hunt reporting......
Us sportspeople have been asking for this for years. I thought I heard they were postponing the reporting because of all the problems they are having with the new system.
Is it just me, or do you guys find it strange that they are having so much problems when this type of system has been around for a while in other states?

It's about time ODFW and got something like this in place. I'm sure ODFW will try and reinvent the wheel and keep fixing it until it's broke. They did the same thing with the new *** system. Can't know why they don't leverage off of the other states who have worked through the software bugs.

Re: Mandatory hunt reporting......
As an employee of a government agency, its one of the most frustrating things in the world that I see all the time. There's this attitude, from city government all the way through the White House, that any new project requires re-inventing the wheel.

Re: Mandatory hunt reporting......
How about they work on online applications while they're at it???? Just about the only western state without an online process for applying every year. Is the ODFW making an effort to be behind the times?

I was glancing at Idaho's reporting system last night. It looks like they give you ten days from the end of the season to report, or ten days from when you fill the tag. This can be done online or with the use of a phone system.

Re: Mandatory hunt reporting......
Nevada's the same way, short time period after the end of the hunt, multiple reporting ways available.

Re: Mandatory hunt reporting......
Us folks across the river have bean reporting for a few years. We can report by phone or online, and they have a special tag drawing for those that report within a given time frame.

Re: Mandatory hunt reporting......
Back when I was going to college, I hunted in North Carolina. Season ran from Oct. 15th to Dec. 31st. 6 deer limit, 2 had to be does. All deer had to be reported. They had a hotline # 1-800-I-GOT-ONE.
Growing up on the east coast, (Ma.) we had to bring our deer to an official check station within 24 hours of the kill. They tagged and aged your deer and then gave you your additional tag. Seems like the online thing or phone hotline would work great.

Re: Mandatory hunt reporting......
They also tagged some bucks with radio collars so if you shoot one with a collar and turn it in they will give you the history of it. I think that would be kind of neat..
