Crusin..good post. Gotta reply here. I like using flutter jigs for fall nookies both in tidewater and on the columbia. A large percentage of people give the few who use them in a "sporting" manner a bad name. I prefer lure jensen Nordics, I have changed
the trebles to siwash for a long time to eliminate snagging and better hook ups. Last year, people commented on the nooks caught arround the bubble fishery being packed full of candle fish... duh...wonder why they will attach jigs? It's all about technique, if your jerking your rod 6 feet; then we have a problem. In Washington, trebles are illegal! Watched a Fed ticket two clowns in a $30,000 boat for keeping snagged fish last year. Only problem was they were back out there following weekend .

NEUTRON:

Ive used Nordics for Chinook also. Your right about using them properly. There is a difference between "jigging" and "jerking".

I have to agree with Neutron and Smoky. I've used Buzz Bombs and Nordics in Tillamook tide water with success hooking chinooks in the mouth...they take these things. Take off the trebles and throw on singles and your in good shape.

I fish flutter jigs for kings in the saltwater off of the piers in puget sound, and have been very successful with several models. my favorite big fish killer is the Kandlefish jig, by blue fox, it is a Chinook killer! large profile for the weight, great color selection, and an awesome flutter on the drop. I take off the single hook it comes with and replace it with a VMC cone cut #2 treble, trebles are legal in WA. in the salt, and it is easier to get a good hookset with the smaller diameter trebles than it is with a bigger siwash hook. after making a hundred foot cast and letting the jig sink to the bottom in 90 feet of water and getting bit on the first lift&drop of the rod, there is too much line stretch to get the single in good, barbless trebles penetrate much better.
I caught a 23 pounder this morning (7-30)
I agree with the other folks, there is deffinetly a technique to learning to jig properly, the speed I jig is about equal to fishing a plastic worm for bass....very slowly...and always remember the fish always take the jig on the fall so watch your line, and feel for the slightest twitch, or bump.
