Re: My best day yet
Those are the days we all get up way too early and freeze our hindquarters off for.
Congrats on a great trip.

My best day yet
Well I got home late saturday night to find out my friend had hooked 7 steelies out of one hole that day and the weather looked like it would hold for another great day so we hit it at daylight. Not a single bite for three hours. So we decided to hit another river about 15 minutes away and drift it with the pontoons. That was the best decision we've made in a while. I was absolutely on fire with the steelies. I stopped counting hookups around 20. I even hooked 5 fish in 6 casts in one hole. However, my friend hooked only 2!! He was getting pretty mad at me, but not mad enough to not take my rod because I didn't want to limit out on such a good day. It started to snow while he was fighting one fish so I went for the camera and OOOOPS, forgot it next to my hat on the counter. I won't do that one again, but in the end I finally got my hatchery limits, one 14 lbs, and the other 10.5 on the digital scale. What a great day on the coast, oh and did I mention I didn't see another fisherman all day?? One last thing about the day though, I broke off a fish and I mentioned where I hooked him, two casts later my friend hooks up. He gets close to the bank and he still had my corkie and hook in his mouth!! Not 60 seconds after I lost him he nabbed another mouthful. When we pulled him in and bonked him we looked at the hooks side by side in his mouth in amazement. I haven't heard of one taking one that quickly after being fought for 30 seconds prior to that. I was really kicking myself for the camera issue after that. But an absolutely great day on the river. I can't wait for the weekend to do it again. I almost forgot, we landed one nate that had a chunk the size of a baseball out of it's side (most likely a seal) that was absolutely nasty, but still took the bait. I was amazed it was even swimming and gave up a good fight. Pretty cool day all around.

Re: My best day yet
Man, I forgot to mention that! It was on the Millicoma river. We fished the W. adn E. Forks. I'm not bashful about telling where I was because there's a lot of river to be fished on both of them. Good luck to everyone else and GRB, I was a little late getting up the river after getting home so late, but it goes to show not always does the early bird get the fish.

Re: My best day yet
Tailchaser, You are an idol for getting up and going on a cold and miserable day. I have been fighting a summer steelie when it took the bait of by partners. We landed the fish and it had both baits and hooks down the throat. Since I hooked it first, it was my fish, but he thought it was his because, according to him, I would not have been able to land it on the light tackel I was using. It didn't matter who tagged that fish as we took limits home anyway. But, it was unusul to have a hooked fish take another bait during the battle.
Thanks for listing the river as a lot of people will not do that. It speaks well of you.

Re: My best day yet
Well snapshot, I'm not so sure of Idol being the proper way to describe me. My wife would have some other choice words to add in there. If it's any consolation, it's not nearly as cold here as it is up there. I was in Sunriver and went through the valley on the weekend and I swear my bones were shivering.
Sounds cool on your double take steelie also, the only other really weird thing I've seen was the Pabst Blue Ribbon Guide (can't for the life of me remember his name) had a picture of a springer that took two kwikfish! Anyhow, it's time to fight off the nasty bug I got and hopefully get well for the weekends show.

5 hook-ups in 6 casts?!! What a blast that must have been!! Sounds like something you would hear about shad fishing, how fun!!
