Default Fishing Report/Ocean out of Hammond

Need to know the best time to cross the CR bar in the morning (Sun). Is the fishing still hot? What about the ratio of chinook to silvers?

The bar should be manageable 4 or possibly 5 hours before high slack. Incoming tide is usually (depending on the other variables) a decent time to cross, just watch the outgoing. If you're an early bird you can have your fish and be crossing back in at high slack... Joe

BTW, while up there last weekend I talked to a guy whose boat had limited the three fishermen on chinook at 130 feet on a downrigger. Setup was an abe and al flasher with a black and glow hootchie.

Ok one more... the tide and bar info you find here or at any other site should be taken as helpful pointers and not gospel. Use your gut feelings and don't cross or hang out longer than you should because somebody else says it will be ok

High tide out there on Sunday 7/29 is 9:23am, that would mean crossing the bar during slack tide which is up to an hour after that. So I would cross around 9:30 am and the next tide change is 2:34 pm, hit the bar coming in around there. This is all of course if the wind is manageable because even at slack tide if the wind is kicking up the swells it can still be rough.

Last year while fishing at the bridge the wind kicked up and a swell came on the bow just with trolling so the wind is important.

I was out there last week and the only thing we saw were coho but others have gone out and seen/caught some chinook so I guess it just matters where you are and when.

Good luck and since the weather is suppose to be alittle nasty pay attention to the forecast and wind speeds.

Jim
