Yea it has been rebuilt/remod once before, it can be rebuilt again if the owners want to keep it alive.

I thought it was FEMA money that helped rebuild last time. I don't know if that comes in the form of loan guarantees or insured underwriting, but I'd bet there are resources to restore the loan asset if my understanding is correct.

I did notice that. You could see her hanging in the breeze out front, a little dirty but still proud. One of the only things that didn't burn.

I see those pictures and think. darn, there goes a great place to stop chat and get a cup of coffee, or a soda, or that one jig i lost on a snag or fish. Now the closest place is gonna be In town and i really dont like going that far in. I hope the re-build soon. But its probly gonna be a year or so... Good to hear nobody was hurt though! On a side note with where it is in the forest im amazed that the fire didnt spread to the trees in the area and start something bigger.

Any word on what caused the fire?

It is sad to see any person suffer a loss like that.
They will be back, buisness was to good to just give it up.
Be thankful nobody was hurt.
For those worried about how this will affect them.
Not a lot of competition for the service they sell therefore it only makes sense they will rebuild as soon as possible.
If they don't somebody else will.

I don't think anyone is 'worrying' about themselves. It is totally normal to think about what we'll miss without the Guide Shop.

We all have personal memories, stories, and such. Let people grieve, for gosh sakes...

I can't tell you how much I'll personally miss the place, and I don't think it's selfish of anyone to wonder "What will we do, now?" ... just normal personal memories.

I will miss it! I will!

I'm so sorry for the owners, and for all the people who joined there in the morning for coffee. What a grand place. What alot of memories up in smoke.

Wah. For everyone... Just "Wah."

I think it is a real testament to the owners of the Guide Shop that folks are wondering what the heck they'll do without them. The Guide Shop on the Wilson, forever a landmark.

O yea the memories! I remember my first experience with the Guide Shop. It was my first year heavily targeting steelhead Probly 5 years ago now and i was trying to cross the river there behind the shop. And ended up loosing my footing and falling into the drink. After a short swim i ended up back onto the bank and loosing some of my gear. I was soaking wet and shooken up (winter time mind you so i was very cold also). I stumbled up to the Guide Shop where they saw what happened from the portch and had a cup of hot chocolate waiting for me when i hit their portch. Ever sence i have always made a point to stop by just to say hi and get some kind of report on river conditions.

They are gonna be missed and i hope they rebuild very soon.

Just talked with Marilyn (Pete's wife).

They're very much in limbo right now...

Sounds as if they could use a little help, too...debris removal will be a biggie immediately (along with a mortgage payment)...

Please let me know if anyone starts up a fund or project.

It's also on my blog: http://blog.oregonlive.com/billmonroe/

Fund / Project..sounds like a great idea. For all of those who feel like that place served as home, or something like it....with whatt little I've got, I'm in. The Gude Shop has been a staple of my cabin trips for years.

What a sad thing to hear. So many memories in that shop. sure hope they can rebuild and get back to the glory days.

If they had the place for sale I am sure they would have a detailed list of inventory down to the last hook.

that just plain sucks. Count me in for a donation if one is truely needed.
fires like this are so devastating. I love the place, always stopped in for a little something. My wife loved to join me on the deck for beer and just take in the sights of the wilson. With it for sale, U suspect it's gone for good.
too bad.
