Default Neat Story in The Oregonian

Nice story about a classy fisherman at this link:
http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/ore...4307573277.xml

Must be cool to me thought of in such a positive way. Only thing I'll be remembered for is "Oh yeah, that guy who worked all the time and went fishing once in a while!" No regrets really, I’m glad to be able to provide so well for my family.

Thanks very much for the link Hawgwash.

There was a thread started several weeks ago asking something like if you could fish with one person, who would that be. I replied I'd like to fish with Ermie Walters.

I grew up fishing the Alsea river for steelhead 30 years ago and have seen Ermie at the oars many times but never have I fished with him. I admire this easy going man with the quick smile and genuinely friendly attitude on the river helping others. His fishing prowess is well known around these parts and I've had the pleasure watching him work his magic on many a trip catching numbers of fiesty steelhead.

My dream trip is still to fish with Ermie. Very sorry to hear about his recent medical condition.

Thanks again Hawgwash,

Gregg

That was a good story about Ermie. There ws an article about Ermie in STS a few years back that is neat to read also. Ermie is a really nice guy. I am glad to have met him in person.

Must be some kind of record to catch 10,000 steelhead so far in his lifetime. That man has the touch! Great story.

great readin at the breakfast table! Another heartbreaking story though for us newby's hearing bout those bounty days. I fish the Nestucca and it drives me nuts to hear the old timers talking " the way it used to be. Nose to tail fish piled up hole to hole...." I look at the Hatchery fish at
Three Rivers Keg'd up in front of the hatchery and just get to dream bout what it must have been like. Still, I'll put in my time, learn from the experienced and pray I'll be there when nature turns it on again.

Man what a great story,I've met a few older guys who tell how fishing used to be in the old days and I find myself trying to imagine back then....that man knows what it's all about and we could all learn a lesson from him....this year I've had one day on the Wind River where I was by myself for a good streach of river and it was filled with springers,I hooked 13 that day and recently had a very good day on the ocean ....are the good old days back........ I remember seeing him with his two clients on the Alsea fishing spinners right below me and it seems immediately they got into a steely after they past me. Where they hit that fish struck me as something that I needed to learn what they did. I do know he likes a certain type of yarn when he drift fishes. I was thinking about a guided trip. Hope he gets better. He is the master from what I hear.

I think that Ermie would like to read these nice comments.
Does anyone have an address I can print these off and mail to him?
