Default thyroid problems?

I found a lump on my thyroid, I am scheduled for a biopsy on the 19th, my question is has anyone else had thyroid problems, cancer or others? I am kind of freaked out so I am reaching out to see who else has been where I am. I have been doing some reading and know a little but it is still scary. thanx all.

No lumps here but I do have HYPO-THYROID syndrom and take synthroid for this.

Your thyroid can really goof you up in many ways. My condition caused me to become sluggish, depressed at times, gain weight and a few other minor issues. Don't mess around with this stuff. Get in, get tested, get better.

Other things that hypothyroid condition can cause is very severe depression that can lead or potentially lead to suisidal thoughts. It is a serious condition not to be taken lightly. It can really mess with your mind.

Hope your condition is nothing serious. See the doc and get it checked right away.

I have already been to the doc, had an ultrasound, and now have to go in for a biopsy, I am on top of it, I am 33 and have three kids I would like to be around for awhile. I had my thyroid tested a few years ago and everything was fine, but now I have the lump.....so I just have to take it step by step.

I had lumps in the thyroid in 1998.
Was having some servere choking episodes. Couldn't drink water without choking. Remembering things was very difficult. Tired-extremely-sleeping 12 hours and still sleepy. No get up and go. blood pressure high.

Went in to see the Doctor and after she schecked my throat out, sent me to a surgeon. I was being checked out by this you tech with a ultra sound and she said quote" Holy Sh**".
Well being the kind of guy I am, I calmly asked her if that was a new medical term for "Your Screwed". She excused herself and came back with the Doctor.

He checked me and here it comes. Quote" Well the way I see it, you have three choices here, the first two I do not believe we need to discuss. Surgery is the only option here and it needs to be done today.
Well now I'm not one to get excited to easy here, I decide I need a second opinion for my santaty.
Well the next day at 8am I'm in the office with my wife and after the examination, same results. I very calmly walk out of the exam room and say these words:See I told you it was nothing to worry about!
Now having the wife I do, she slugged me so hard and asked "Were you in the same room with her and the Doctor!
Here is the diagnosis: Left side thyroid- swallen 4 inches long by 3.5 inches thick, trackia forced three inches from center causing callase of canal, which is why I choked on anything when swallowing. Right side thyroid, swollen 2 3/4 inches long by 2.5 inches thick.
Solution The Knife the next morning.

Thyroid meds the rest of my life.

Tissue samples came back - Thyroid cancer- very bad- radiation therapy next two years.

So you have lumps, watchem close and play it safe and don't take chances.

Take Care. Good to see you saw your Doctor.

My sister just went through this...she had lumps and they removed her thyroid...biopsy came back NEGATIVE and she is on synthroid for the rest of her life...but she says that she feels better and has more energy...we were worried since we have a close family link to cancer....but she is fine...I will send prayers your way...and please take others advice to keep your apts and have your thyroid meds adjusted according to your bloodwork......

wow herring, well glad to see you are ok now, I have one small lump on the right side about 1" to 1 1/2" is what the ultrasound discovered, I have also heard that if you do get cancer I guess thyroid cancer is the best....lol...is there such a thing? anyway my good friends wife had it as well, she now has no thyroid...I just got ahold of her...and talked to her for a bit, I guess I have been overreacting...just a tad... her lump was about as big as a baseball, thanx for your story.

My son went through removal and treatment of thyroid cancer about 2 years ago.He had a tumor removed that was the size of a softball.Looking at pictures of him you could tell he had it for awhile. They had a little trouble removing it because it was so large. It went from just below his jawline down into his chest cavity.

He had a lot of the same things going on that Herring problem did.

There are 3 kinds of thyroid cancer. Some not so bad.1 really bad.But all are curable.Matt had a Dr in Olympia. The doc called after the biopsy results came back.He left a message on his phone,Told my son it was cancerous and it was the worse kind there is.Then when Matt tries to call him back the doc avoids his calls, then says he cant talk on the phone and he needs to come into the office next week. That was the last time he talked to that doc.

My wife encouraged him to get ahold of U.W medical center. She dealt with them before. When Matt went there, they had a team of Doctors look at him,his tests, charts and everything else.Plus they ordered more tests.

Matt was able to step out in the hall for a minute during his appt.I could tell from where I was at,that he was very relieved. The Doctors at U.W. told him that the type of cancer he was told he had was tough, but treatable. After more tests. They found that it wasnt the type of cancer first thought. But 1 that looked a lot like it.The kind he had wasnt as bad.

Matt ended up having 2 surguries. One side of his thyroid turned out to be cancerous. The other side didnt show cancer.During the surgury the Dr came out and said The other side looked cancerous also, but he didnt want to take it out on a hunch. He gave us the option of just taking it all out,or doing another biopsy and going from there. After some discussion we decided to wait on the other biopsy.Well,it came back positive. So he had to have surgury again.

After surgury, and chemo, his follow up MRIs and tests have been clean. He still needs to go in once a year to be checked.

The hard part for Matt has been getting his thyroid medicine where it needs to be,and eating right. But he has made the adjustments and feels great.

Dont know where your located, but if possible you may want to talk to somebody up there.UW,Fred Hutchinson Cancer center. And Cancer care alliance are all affiliated. And awesome people.

I wish you the best soulrider. You will be in my prayers.

thanx everyone, I am feeling alot better knowing that my lump is no where near the size of some that I have heard, I was flipping out thinking well, get my affairs in order, and say good by, but from everything I have read, seen, and what you all have told me I guess I will be around for awhile, and maybe it is nothing at all, it might not even be cancer, I will know after the 19th when I have my biopsy. Once again thanx everyone, it is good to know that people who dont even know you are wishing you the best.
