Duck season starts in a little over a month.
Its a long season with a good deal of areas to hunt within an 1-2 hours of
your location. IFISHER generally post open seats/blind during waterfowl season.

I filled some open seats last year as my first real year of duck hunting that were posted on the board, if lor and i get out again this year we would be glad to take you along, although im sure he would agree that we are both also pretty new to the whole duck game but would love to take you along if we have the room in a blind come October 13th

I agree we are new to the ducking thing, last year was my first as well. We look like seasoned duck hunters with the guns, plenty of decoys(>3 dozen), shells, calls, etc. But we could both improve on our calling, shooting, etc. However there is always a slightly deaf duck out there and we kill a couple from time to time.
If you want to tag along with us, thats fine. Just send us a PM when you can make it up here on a Sauvie Island hunt day and your welcomed to our blind.

Check out EE wilson. It's right in your backyard. Find the links on the odfw website.

Re: any bird hunters want to take the time to show a newbie the ropes???
I'd recommend adding every possible detail you can to your public profile. I personally will not hunt with people I don't know. It's not my gun that will kill me, it's the one next to me held by inexperienced hands. I made this decision a long time ago and the few times I have waivered from it I have regreted the decision.
Allowing people a small bit of insight to you and the kind of person you are may spawn a few invites for you. Good luck.

Re: any bird hunters want to take the time to show a newbie the ropes???
good advice, thehunt. Also, coming on here and flat-out asking for hand-outs will get you a few trips from the ultra-kind folks, but most of the guys who really, really know where the birds are because of extensive scouting, expense and hard work would want to know that you are making an effort, too. Scouting from the couch will only get you so far- there is alot you can be doing right now. Plus, shooting some birds on a hand-out trip might be fun, but there is nothing more rewarding than getting off the couch and doing a little leg work for your birds. If you post during the season and are in need of help and talk about the things you've already tried, you will not believe the responses you will get compared to pan-handling. Good luck!

After much discussion on the topic i think the only safe option is to put at least 50ft of cord on each decoy and at least a pound of lead, that way even if you cant hit anything with the gun you can still throw some lead at them!!!
