Default Yamaha Outboard

Can anyone give me a list of Yamaha dealers in the Portland area. I just bought a boat (no motor) and am looking for a new Yam 150 fuel injected 25" shaft to put on the back end. I'd be interested in buying the motor and having them rig as well. Any help is appreciated. I live in Spokane and options are limited here. Thanks for any help.

Hey Denali - I've had two Yamaha outboards. The first one I bought at US Marine Sales in Olympia. I don't have their # anymore, but I'm sure they are in the book. They had really good prices and it would be about the same distance for you to drive there. The second I bought with my North River. They have a shop in Portland that I'm sure could sell you a motor, but I'm not sure if they can rig it in Portland. They put my motor on at the factory in Roseburg. NR's number in Portland is 503-650-0001 and their 1-800 # in Roseburg is 874-3434. I'd also try Canada if I were you. The dollar goes much further up there and you can arrange to have the motor shipped to Seattle and pick it up there for a lot less than you can buy one down here. If you look up the Yamaha website, you can search for Yamaha dealers in Vancouver, Canada. I had a friend who did this and saved about $3,000 on a 250 saltwater series.

Out of curiousity Killertraylor are there any restrictions on bringing a motor from Canada? Are their different emmissions systems like with cars or are they the same motor in Canada?

Good suggestions/options. I've always had Yamaha's and I'd like to stay with that brand. Also if I can buy outside of WA, I'm only paying sales tax on the boat when I register it(I think?). I'm anxious to get it wet ofcourse but am willing to be patient if I can save some bucks. My other boat can still get me to the fish. Thanks for the responses.

That's a good question, Grits. All new motors produced in the U.S. now have a sticker on them that makes them emissions compliant through 2006 (or something to that effect). When I bought my North River last fall, the Canadian motors did not have the emissions compliant sticker on them, but they were the same motor. There was some concern voiced by the dealer that the motor might be confiscated if I came to Canada to pick it up and then carry it across the border. However, he had shipped several to port in Seattle without any problem. He kept mentioning that the new motors he was getting in December would have the sticker that is needed and I suspect he has them now. The motors were no different - just lacked a sticker until recently.
