Default Ok - today was one of those great fishing days for me!

When I fish for salmon or steelhead, I truly enjoy the 'act' of fishing. I love being on the water and outside. I enjoy knowing that I just 'might' get a chance to hook into a beautiful fish. I really like spending time with family and friends in the process. AND IF I ACTUALLY CATCH SOMETHING, I consider that an accomplishment and a wonderful bonus for the day.

Every once in a while, in my experience, I will have a blockbuster day on the water. They usually happen every few years for someone like myself who doesn't get to spend much time on the water. Today was a blockbuster day for me.

I fished the lower Deschutes with my father-in-law and we hooked lots of steelhead. I'm not really a numbers guy as I consider that keeping score. However, to get a picture of the day in a two hour time span I hooked and released 5 fish and kept one 31 inch keeper, while losing two others. And there were others..... It was absolutely awesome.

Another great site was watching a young boy of about 9 or so catch a steelhead while his dad was coaching. What a great site.

Other people were catching fish on the river, but I guess we were just holding our mouths just right. I doubt I'll have a day like that again anytime soon. And quite frankly, I really don't want to measure a 'good' fishing day by the numbers we hit today. Any day fishing is a 'good' day. I'll just remember this day as simply awesome. God is good.

Dave
Thanks for sharing your fishing story. Man I gotta get over to the Deschutes this year. Sounds like a blast.

Nice post Dave. No braggin', no bull, just a description of a great day fishing that including catching.

I always like to hear the numbers of hooked, landed, released.

Way to go Dave,
It sometimes amazes me that when I remember some of my "best trips" they are not always the ones where the most or biggest fish were caught, Don't get me wrong, these things do matter, and they matter alot to me, but some days, the time spent with friends or family is just special in itself.

FM2, make sure you go with someone who has ran it before. It's big water with some class 4's, what a blast. You need a river permit and shuttle can be a bit spendy. well
worth the effort just for the scenery.
