Default Washougal River

After smelt dipping this morning, I fished the washougal with no luck. The water is very good but not a lot of fish yet. Talked to a coupole of fellow fisherman on the river and thye had no luck either. Any day now the native fish should be coming in pretty good. I hope there are as many as there was last year at least.

My son moved to Camas and I been thinking about going for a visit and trying the river out. I have a couple of questions for anyone out there. When would it be a good time to go? And not asking anyone to give out any secrets but where would be a good spot to begin learning the river? And last, is it worth fly fishing during the summer or fall? Thanks

there are a few fly fisherman that fish it during the summer run steelhead which usually come in around the middle of may through july. A lot of the fly guys fish around the bowling alley. Last year they did not get a very good return of fish but the year before that they had a very great return. It has been hit and miss on the winter fish but since about the 1st week of January it has been slow. Atleast for the guys that I know and me. They tend to pick up quite a few fish in the summer on bobber and jig.

Thanks for the info. The bowling alley should be easy for me to find. I will try around June with my fly rod.
Sounds like your Winter run down there is no different what our run has been like up here in the Puget Sound area. Timing is everything. Thanks again
