Westport Tuna Report for Aug 31
Westport Tuna Report for Aug 31
Boarded the Gold Rush at 3am and departed the harbor by 3:30am. Boat was
fueled and baited the night before. Our group consisted of 9 anglers aboard. We
headed out at 242 degrees to the south edge of Grays Canyon approximately 35
miles out. There were approximately 12 other charter boats working the area this
morning. The Gold Rush began trolling at 7am with the first hook-up at 7:30am.
Then the live bait chaos began.
Then repeat, repeat, etc.,…by 9am we had 25 tuners aboard. Tuna were very
picky by this time so the tactics were run and gun. Find the birds, ya find the tuna.
We would slide up along side the boil with live chovies. By 2pm we had landed
84 tuna and it was time to head towards the barn. Arrived back at port at
4:45pm. By the afternoon the water was almost flat pond water. What a great day
on the briny. Kevin and his crew did a great job finding the tuna and assisting
other anglers. His boat and crew are always top notch!!!

4'-6' is still better than 9-5!!
If it doesn't have a bill...it's just bait!!
