Mono vs Braided
I'm getting ready to change line on some of my reels and am wondering what ifishers think of the braided line vs the mono. I have used the braided with mixed results and it's difficult to get away from the berkley big game i'm soo fond of

Re: Mono vs Braided
No question here....Power Pro Main Line all the way around. Use whatever leader you are most comfortable with!!

Re: Mono vs Braided
FM2,
Sturgeon, backbouncing, bobber fishing - 80lb.TUFF all the way. Use 50-60 mono leader
Plugs,trolling,driftfishing,-mono is king.
Good Luck !

Re: Mono vs Braided
I agree with all of what Get Bit said and then I would add using TUF Line to trolling Delta Divers down at Astoria because all that pulling usually streaches out the last couple of feet of your mono.
Big Game is also my favorite line for all my boat fishing.

Re: Mono vs Braided
Braided for sturgeon, that's a given. Also for bobber fishing, easier to mend your line. Tuf works great.
Mono for everything else. I prefer Ultragreen.

Re: Mono vs Braided
I'm a big fan of tuff line, both the 80 and the 50. Takes some getting used to, but for bobber fishing which is my mainstay it cant be beat.

Re: Mono vs Braided
I use 50# Power Pro on all my saltwater reels and am very happy with it. No kinks, no memory, no curls, no problems!
Be sure to follow their knot-tying advice, 'cause this stuff is really slippery/slick. I tie a palomar whenever it's possible and have had no problems. Kinda pricey, but worth it.
What's really strange is the stuff is made from recycled plastic like milk jugs and six-pack rings!! Go figure.

Re: Mono vs Braided
I'm a big fan of braided lines when I'm in my boat. No stretch is a definite advantage and I've only had my line part once...halibut fishing this spring. I've also found that I can get about 6 years of fishing on a reel fill. At the end of a couple of seasons, I simply reverse the line as I do my double taper fly lines. It's a frugal tactic, yes, but I've never found that the line has weakened over the years. I wouldn't trust monofiliment line to last more than 6 to 12 months.

Re: Mono vs Braided
I have used tuffline for many years but recently switched to power pro. I use it for both sturgeon and salmon. on my casting gear for bobbers or quickfish or other plugs power pro for bottom bouncing mono. I switched from tuffline because of its lack of abrasion resistance (to many fish cut off). So far I am very happy with the power pro.

Re: Mono vs Braided
FM2,
You can get Tuf Line Plus a FMS. They put it on sale at least twice a year.So I'd wait until they have the sale...probably to kick off the URB season. Don't bother with the regular Tuf Line. GI Joe's has a limited amount of Power Pro line. Ralph Steele at Lure Me Tackle 762-1273 is a Power Pro sales rep. He can get you any test or quantity that you want. He's in S.E.,however. Power Pro is incredibly thin diameter!!! It's much thinner than it's equivilent in Tuf Line Plus.
