Default how big is too big to catch tuna

I have a charter booked for Monday and the forecast looks BAD 12' combined 4' S wind and 8' W swell. Too big for me but I'm not sure where our captains limit is. How is the fishing in rough seas, does it effect it either way other than being uncomfortable?

I wouldn't go, charter or not. That being said, I had my best catching day on Tuna! in the worst seas I have ever fished for them on! About what you have as a prediction...maybe a little worse. The day started O.K. but got worse every hour, until I just wanted to go home...fortunately the hold was full anyway!
I really believe in not starting out with a bad forecast or when the seas don't look that great. For me it is not the safety factor, but the comfort factor. As someone said on this board, fishing is suppose to be fun!

Not sure what your charter's cancellation policy is, most charge you full fair if you no show or cancel too late. Personally, I wouldn't go. Certainly tends to make fishing more difficult, and as WP said, fishing is supposed to be fun. At least out of the CR, the run is pretty long right now. Rough seas will take them longer to get fishing, and they will leave for home earlier to allow for the slow run home. So bottom line, less fun, less fishing.

Lumpy, no fun, but fishing can be good.

If your not able to get a refund or rain check, go out for the fun of it.

Oh your talking about the swell, I thought you meant the tuna. Too big tuna? What a concept.

What boat, how big? Do you get readily sea sick? I've fished those conditions for tuna.

Glassy seas make spotting the fish easier, and if you are live bait or casting low wind doesn't push you off the fish as fast. The fish don't care, they will be biting just fine.

You will just have a few more bruises from getting banged around.

Hey Fish On, we never heard if you went on your charter, and if so, how it played out...

The captain cancelled the trip, then he cancelled all trips until Thursday. He agreed it looked a bit too sporty and wouldn't be much fun for my out of town guests.

Great to know, some captains won't unless it is flat our dangerous. Thanks for the update.
