Re: I know someone got.....
This is the best I can do for now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNBuaG3hLBQ
I didn't get him to come in but had an exciting 2 hours this morning. All I did was use cow calls and I don't believe he ever caught a wiff of me. He sure was haveing fun tearing stuff up. I never saw him so he should still be workable. I backed out came home and went to Ifishstock. Saw many trucks still parked at gates on the way home, so there may be a few guys still packing out.
Thank God we can hunt again!!!!

Re: I know someone got.....
I hope to get him. I don't think he's big but, he'll sure fill my belly. I have another appointment with him soon. He's only about 10 minutes from the house.

Re: I know someone got.....
Well i sat the stand till 9ish and didn't see a thing, spooked somethin from the meadow before light it wandered up the hill and blew snot at me about 10 times. I took off for a walk and ran across one deer who spotted me first and stomped its foot and wandered off i only saw the butt end of it. Found a good trail when i followed that one that had about 6 or 7 rubs all in a line down it. A little while later i heard a little something off to my rat and crouched down and snuck around to take a look, about 50 yards there he was a toad walking nervously into the thick stuff. I only saw the back of his rack because he was walking straight away but it was definitely P&Y class. I tried following for a bit but only saw him one more time out about a hundred yards. He'll stay around though(i hope) its not a pressured area. Anyways back out again in the morning to a different spot for elk. Good luck guys hopefully i'll have some pictures soon lookin forward to seeing your guy's

Re: I know someone got.....
Got into a herd of about 25 at 8:00 a.m. 1 spike and 1 branch in the whole group. We stopped them 3 times at 50 yards with cow calls but never had a bull shot. THE SEASON IS YOUNG!!! Good luck everyone, the rut is right around the corner (where I hunt anyway)! BH

Re: I know someone got.....
Called a six point out of the bottom of a canyon. But I didn't have a good place to set up so, I left him there for another day. Also saw a cow and a calf. The bull came up out of the bottom like a frieght train!

Re: I know someone got.....
I had a big bear come by my stand Saturday morning at 630. He rolled over a rootwad and was eating bugs 15 yards from my tree. Every time I drew my bow he'd move to a bad angle. Then he waddled over to the trail I'd walked in on and smelled a buckskin log my pant leg had brushed 45 minutes earlier and didn't care for that, so he hightailed it back into the reprod. I think the bear was a 300 lber, a real dandy!
It was VERY windy on the east slope of Mt Hood all weekend. I'm still swaying while sitting in the puter chair!

Re: I know someone got.....
I am sorry to say, but on a befpre mentioned post, I informed of a local who stuck a 6X6, and now am told, he cannot locate it! The story, as all have done, was twisted in his hurridness, and is still attempting to locate the bull.

Re: I know someone got.....
At it all day Saturday and spent all day playing ghost elk hide and seek in the fog and timber. Walked, crawled, and thrashed up, down, and all around. Tracked em, heard em, smelled em, never did see em. A good day.

Nadda for me. The elk were very quiet in the cascades where I was. Saw a few deer and some grouse.

Got into elk both days but just couldn't close the deal. The bulls aren't being vocal yet on the part of the coast where I hunt.

Re: I know someone got.....
Over here on the east side I am hearing that the bulls are gathering cows and bugling really good in the early parts of the morning. Good luck everyone, and shoot straight!

Re: I know someone got.....
I got very sick Wednesday night and couldn't begin eating until Friday. I cancelled my three day pack into the wilderness for that reason. Hunted in scary dry conditions Saturday and came home to a very sick wife. I cancelled Sundays hunt for that reason. Mondays hunt was cancelled because the kids got sick Sunday. Ok, now I am going to go hunt tomorrow even if the dogs get sick! (one of them did last night) If anyone wants to hunt, STAY AWAY FROM OUR HOUSE!

maybe since you were in the woods earlier, you may stumble on a nice bull who isnt feeling too well!! And put him outta his misery!! ....... just let the meat hang for a few more days!! LOL

Re: I know someone got.....
Got my first elk hunt in today. Just a quicky, 7 miles hiking with 1,800 vertical up, and down. Set up 30 minutes before shooting light and started calling heavy 15 minutes later. 20 minutes later a bull comes in down wind and spooks @ 30 yards. Got him stopped behind me for a short time then he was off again. His cows were @ 150 yards off and I assume he rejoined them.
He never made a sound but was very interested in our calls.
Note to self: when huting with two people make sure one is covering the down wind side.
