Alsea Elk

I am new to the area and hunting Elk in Alsea the next 3 weeks. Has any one had much luck in this unit in the past years? or have any pointers. Thanks in advance.

No one has ever hunted the Alsea unit for archery elk?

The hills above waldport have some elk in them, i cant remember the road name (i think its Eckman Creek road) but there is a road that makes a big loop right off of hwy 34 after you get out of town that that goes through a bunch of big clear cuts, if you get off the road and walk the perimeter of the cuts you should find them or at least some good sign

Without giving away any specific locations you'd do well to just start heading up logging roads not far from home and checking out the clearcuts for elk or elk sign. The Alsea unit holds quite a few elk. I'd go to the Dept. of Forestry and get a color coded map that shows which timber companies own what in your area so you don't get sideways with somebody. Just start driving, pedaling or walking. You'll find elk or evidence of them being there. Good luck.
