DK,

There should not be any fin-clipped coho in Alsea Bay. They stopped planting hatchery cohoa few years ago and the Alsea has been 2 years clean and sober of hatchery coho (Thank God!).

There is a chance you could pick up a stray coho from another system but not likely. If I remember correctly, even when there were hatchery coho in the Alsea, they would only allow you to retain them in Fall Creek. That ****** a bunch of people off who were catching chrome, clipped coho in tidewater and they had to let them go. Ha ha!

the bay opens aug 1st for chinook, i know silvers in the ocean is closing soon, the regs state, open for marine fish and other fish (see page 14) entire year in alsea bay page 14 lists silvers as one of the marine or others i have to asume with that wording silvers are legal to keep (fin cliped) ????

thanks mike, the reason i asked was because last year i did hook a fin clipped coho of about 10 lbs hated to release it because the regs say nothing about not being able to retain it, as stated earler the bay is open entire year for other marine fish as listed on page 14, unless there is some special reg that superseed these i think a person would have a good case if ticked doug

I'm not sure how more specific than "closed to coho" you want to get. Read a little closer and you'll see that all areas are actually closed to all salmon and steelhead fishing unless specified under special regs. Yes it says it is open to other species but states plain as day that it is closed to Coho. Why are you trying so hard to find a loophole in an area that is closed to coho? OH yea, did I mentioned it was closed to coho?

If I knock my own salmon off with the net in the middle of the ocean and nobody saw it, did it actually happen?

Read under general regs. Closed to Coho and Chum's unless it states otherwise under special regs for that area... Joe

salmonator, for argumanitive sake, does it have to say specifically open for silvers, the reason i ask this again is because the regs tell you to go to page 14 and on page 14 lists silvers on that page in a vague way they are telling you they are open the entire year

guess i didn't see the other page wasn't trying to find a loop hole its just that a person from out of town that gets a license and reads the regs for that zone could mis interputet the wording, was just trying to get a little more info thanks doug
